taters
thanks a lot. i got 2 tires from sw moto.great service. i took them to a yamaha dealership to install them. the installer put the lug nuts on wrong and stripped some bolts. also didn't torque them right. screwed up my rear disk tire and i think the bmw mechanic said it screwed up the drive line or something like that. they wrote it all up and said the bill will be $2700, the mechanic said i was lucky the rear wheel did not fall off and killed me. when i get the bill and pick up the bill and i will go to the yamaha dealership and ask for $2700 and another $750 for a rental car. the dealership said they will write up the mistakes the installer made in detail. so i will take them to small claims court and hopefully get my $3500 back. W. Mazelin
Good luck. What a bummer, how long till the bike is fixed? Link to comment
Tony_K
You'll most likely end up in court. See what your insurance can do for you then let them handle it. Make all the calls and start a paper trail before you or pay out any money to build your case and make it stronger. Link to comment
taters
good advice. it is gonna take at least 14 days. i went to the yamaha dealership and told them i needed a copy of the work. i did not tell them why.. they gave me a printout. then i wrote to sw moto and asked for a receipt for the time period 2 days before the work was done they said ok they will send it. and the bmw dealership said they will write a concise letter detailing all thethings done wrong and give me the parts. so heres hoping .i will call my insurance agent tommorrow. thanks for all the advice Link to comment

You would have to be monumentally incompetent to screw it up that bad. The front is pretty much exactly like the front on every other bike out there. The rear is dramatically easier. Just remove four lugs, pull the wheel, change the tire, put the wheel back on, and put the four lugs back in. Even a chowderhead like me can do that without mucking anything up. My advice: Never take ANYTHING to that shop again. If you break down in front of that shop and need to use the phone, push your bike to the next place...even if it is 10 miles uphill in the 110-degree heat. Whatever they've got going on in there, you don't want to risk getting any on you. Link to comment

Just in case, on a R1150 you have to remove the brake caliper before you remove the rear wheel, as the brake disk is attached to the wheel. No big deal. Link to comment
philbytx
Taters, Sorry to hear about your screw up.....what a mess! Anyway, you have learned a lesson that I had a long time ago. Better to remove the wheels yourself and then just take the wheels to get the tires mounted. Oh! and to be safe, check your rims to see if the buggers marred or chipped them - DAMHIK! Shops generally give tire work to the lowliest of their staff Good luck and DLTBGYD ! Link to comment
arbee
Boy oh Boy there are some confused thoughts in there screwed up my rear disk tyre (what is that?) the tyre or the disk? Stripped some bolts (how) screwed up the drive line or something like that? I smell a rat here!! one who likes to rip people off Link to comment
taters
the rear disk , i will give you the full report if you want it when i pick up the bike. i am no thief. i am just ignorant when it comes to bikes and their parts. i should get the bike back in 2-3 weeks and i'll write verbatim what the service manager wrote. Davis
Cross threading the lug bolts could cause all the listed damages. The bolts and threads in the hub would be damaged and if the bolts weren't fully tightened, the wheel and rotor would slip and could elongate the mounting holes. Link to comment
