F_Magna
Any good tips on keeping the pipes in good shining order? Looking at my new 2005 ST (new to me) the first silencer/muffler box underneath is covered with brown something & looking in detail there are plenty of small pits on the surface, particularly around the welds. I've given it a bit of a go with autosol, but will this be enough to get it to gleam? Even more important in view of new classic status of ST's! Chris Link to comment
zKing
I'd suggest riding it for about 200,000 miles and then buying a new bike. That's my plan for cleaning my '07 RT. Link to comment
Firefight911
Honda Spray cleaner when it is cool works great. Get some bug and tar remover and wipe that on and off when it is cool as well for those spots that are dingy, etc. Link to comment
TowerMonkey
I have been using 0000 steel wool for years, keeps the shine. Sometimes I wet the steel wool with a very light polishing compound. I like them clean also. Link to comment
F_Magna
Thanks for all the replies. zKing - I hear what you say about riding rather than fiddling, but in defence of my being a bit a**l-retentive on the cleaning front, if I hadn't been prodding about cleaning the pipes, then I may not have noticed the exhaust clamp with one screw missing, the other mostly undone & the spacer block just about to drop off. Probably saved 50p in spare parts. Ride safe Link to comment
George
Chris, I too like to keep the pipes clean. I use Solvol Autosol and manage to keep on top of the brown cruddy stuff. Have fun on your now "classic ride" Link to comment
