Balls are too slippery...need some gritty salve?

Seriously! I have some mirrors that have a spring and ball joint, so you can fold them out of the way on the trail. However, they are far too loose, rendering them useless at highway speeds. The mount cannot be tightened...and the mount isn't moving anyway, it's the ball socket tension within.

Suggestions?

Blue Thread Lock ???

The problem is that it's handy to move them a little, but not during the commute. I wonder if the bearing has just worn down?

A wise rider with many more miles than I'll ever ride suggested to me once that fingernail polish or Testor's model paint on the ball(s) will do the trick. It creates friction in the joint and weathers reasonably well, but if it wears off you can reapply it easily and inexpensively.

Hmmm, fingernail polish on your balls?

Thinking this might smart just a little as it drys. blush.gif

I sure as heck wish we had archived "ToxicAgain's" "My balls hurt" thread from a few years back. I'd love to read that one again! Talk about laughing until your sides ache! lmao.gif

+1 on the fingernail polish. You could always ad a bit of valve lapping compound also.

Valve lapping compound is cheap, couple of bucks at a parts store and you can use it on the end of your scewdiver for those really tight phillips screws, more bite on the tip of the screwdriver.
