azkaisr
You know sometimes you have a trip...no an experience that is so stupefying beyond your expectations that it makes you just ponder how worthy life can be. While the hype for Ouray II was low key, the fun that was had (and is still being had as I write this) will be laughed about for years to come. New terms were invented, alternative modes of transportation used, and there is even a chance that old Kaisrino has found true...well more on that stuff later....now lets just get on to the show.... One of the main things I really wanted for the GS was a top case. This guy came a little late, but mounted well and did a great job. Thanks a lot Andrew at the Adventures Workshop for helping. No way were we going to let a little heat get in the way of setting off. Here is our Hero in the parking lot at the office about to set off. It was only about 110 there. Howard was a little late but he did show up eventually Nothing like wearing the Stitch in 112 degree heat Howard...We can see he is putting that PHD to good use here. We made tracks up North ASAP and got into the 90's pretty quick. Between Howard loaning me his Hoon Cooler (I NEED TO GET ONE), and his cool Vest, we did fine in the heat. It was between 90-115 all day and I was never uncomfortable. I did drink a lot.... If only we had found a place that sold Rocks in Holbrook...And I always thought this town got hosed by the Eagles....I mean standing on a corner in Holbrook Arizona...just sounds so much better. At least gas was cheap... Mesh? We don't need no stinking Mesh! From there it was on to the big Res for the run up to Colorado. You just aren't going to catch the midnight rider.... Though it was fun to try! We had to dodge some open Range cows. Castles in the sand..stone.... Up around 4 corners we got some good sweepers and just ate up the road. We managed to get into Cortez and tanked up. Major Tom to ground control...this new Nolan Helmet (once it broke in) is worth looking into if you need a good flip up. Rain threatened on the way into Durango but we never got more then a drop or two. We ate a quick sandwich in town and then headed up the Million Dollar highway to Ouray. There are no pictures of this part of the ride. The reason for this is that it was cold, dark and deer infested. We counted 23 deer that were a direct threat to us in about 45 miles. Places you would think a mountain goat would not tread, Bambi was there. It made for an interesting ride. We managed to find the townhouse and settle in. The other Ouray regulars were also there and greeted us in the traditional manner. A great day that we thought would be miserable because of the heat turned out to be great. Tomorrow our story will continue....but here is a sneak peek. oooooo...... Kaisr Link to comment

PhillyFlash
Here's the short story, with more to come later. Yes, I'm now the proud owner of a new-to-me 2007 Titan Silver R1200RT. One of our members posted this bike in the Classifieds a couple weeks ago. Only 5600 miles, a very good price, and he lived only 35 minutes away from me. I wasn't really ready to buy a new bike at this time, but took a look anyway. After debating with myself for a week, and chatting with a few folks around here (thanks Greg, Fernando, Tool, and Tom), I decided to just do it on impulse. I picked it up on Monday, took it to Scottsdale BMW for a 6k service on Tuesday morning, had a quick job getting my electrics powered on Tuesday evening (thanks Al), and then a crazy day putting on fresh rubber front and rear on Wednesday (thanks Shelley and KC), and it was ready for its inaugural run on Thursday (hello Ouray II!!). What the hell was I thinking???!!!!! But after running around every day last week to buy it and get it ready, everything really did come together well. However, this whole thing, including the trip to Ouray, was all on an impulse. I figured it was a fitting name for the new ride. And yes, Paul, thanks for noticing. I've lost 30 pounds (but gained back 3 pounds during Ouray II) since January. I'll upload some photos and add on my portion of this ride tale (or start another one). Need to make sure Tom keeps all of this straight, and also need to fill in the parts that he leaves out. He was only there for 2 nights, and so much more happened after he left. And yes, we did go on a jeep ride during a motorcycle trip. What would you expect? Killer was there, and off-roading just comes naturally to that guy. The rest of us were just along for the ride. More to come..... Link to comment
90%angel
Congrats on the new bike and the weight loss, Howard (I noticed too!). It's going to be hard to get used to you on a silver, new RT! You silver fox, you! Looking forward to going on a "slow ride" with you in Torrey next time! Link to comment

PhillyFlash
Ouray II? I missed something along the way. When was Ouray I? We've all agreed not to talk about Ouray I any more. It's best left that way, if you know what I mean. Better to enjoy the tales of Ouray II (Tom, do you have any photos of the naked Summer Solstice dance) and plan for Ouray III. I can hardly wait until next June! Link to comment
