BillZ
I am searching for a luggage rack for an LT to use in place of the top case for daily commuting. The dealer assures me that you can remove the top case, loosing 38lbs, and add an aftermarket luggage plate. Of course you loose the back speakers, but also loose some bulk and top weight. One of the salesman has done this himself. I'm not sure I would go for this, but I like to leave my options open. Any suggestions? Link to comment
BluesTraveler
Saw this LT up at the Lookout on Ortega Hwy. one Sunday morning. Owner said the rack was off a Harley full dresser. Once the LT's top box was remover drilling 4 holes was all that was required to install the new rack. Owner also stated that the LT hadn't shown any sign of rejecting the Harley part yet. Not even an oil leak resulting from the use of Harley parts. I think it looks really nice on the big LT. In fact it looks factory. Link to comment
BillZ
That looks pretty good! I was thinking of something much less, but that is a very usable option and I bet you can get that thing used pretty cheap! Thanx Link to comment
BluesTraveler
I've got another but I can't seem to find it. This one was machined from aluminum plate. Look very nice. My friend Mike measured and took a few pictures. I'll see if I can get the pictures. Link to comment
Burt
This isn't really a luggage rack, but it works really well for solo riding. I've seen a couple, and they look pretty good. http://www.corbin.com/bmw/k1200lt_smug.shtml Link to comment
BillZ
That looks like a real slick option. My wife would get mad if I even suggested that one, but that does look really nice. Thanx Link to comment
Couchrocket
Here's my friend, Doug's, LT w/ an aluminum one. Looks factory. He got it at A&S BMW . Link to comment

BillZ
I found the A&S one also. I still like the harley one better myself. Easier to tie onto. Link to comment
keithb
Bill I personally think the LT looks great with a rack and no top case. I have seen several bikes set up like that and they look great not to mention losing almost 40 lbs. KB Link to comment
