Redbrick
In a previous thread (that I can't find in Search) the question was asked if the low seat was harder than the regular....An in depth test was done yesterday in my garage with mine (low) and my buddies (high) and the final (very subjective) result is: The regular has more padding but probably doesn't tranlate into more comfort (my evaluation)...These are both on 1200RT's... Disclaimer: Only one beer was involved in the test..... Phil...........Redbrick Link to comment

s3steve
This test is deemed invalid!!!! One beer!!! Helloooooooo, everyone knows that these tests require at least a 6 pack! Sheessh! Rookie!! I agree 1 beer does not provide enough time for two men to evaluate a$$ comfort! Unless of course you're the type to nurse a single beer for hours! I don't know, maybe you like to drink warm Guinness like some of our Brit friends. Then again I know they don't nurse any beer! Link to comment
s3steve
Now for the real question. How much of height difference is there between the two? And how much of a difference between the stock low and the Sargent low? Link to comment
Redbrick
Further analysis of this seat issue may involve more than one beer and necessitate a government grant for the clinical trials .... But, here goes....... Low Sargent and low stock seat comparison on the R1200RT: Sargent is 3" wider and the back (13" vs. 16"), has a flat configuration that allows the rider to sit farther back against the pillion more comfortably so that his/her (insert butt description of choice) is over a wider, flatter area. Height is near the same on both but the Sargent is wider at the thighs (or something) and makes the reach to the ground farther...I only ride my low Sargent in the low position with a 29-1/2" inseam...Tip-toes....Buddy with the regular Sargent and longer legs also rides in the low position because of the seat configuration... Stock seat is softer than the Sargent...... Comparison of height off the ground between the two Sargent's will have to wait until this afternoon's board meeting in his garage....Analysis will begin after a refreshment break that tends to make us really smart All this isn't worth a didely as seat comfort is a really personal matter...And well it should be considering the anatomy involved... Specs is specs but what feels good is what counts......... Phil...........Redbrick Link to comment
s3steve
Phil thanks for the analysis! The US & Canadian governments seem to spend a lot of money on this type of testing so a gov. grant is not out of the question! It's good to know the Sargent seat will work with my little pegs! One other question, can I still use my stock rear seat and if so how does it look? Thanks Again! Just take your time and prepare properly. A good test is always in the preparation! Don't start testing until you have at least 4, make the 6 since it's US suds. Link to comment
bmwdavid
It was me who started this whole debate. I just ordered the regular height sargeant and it is on the way. My inseam is only 29" so it should be interesting to see how the reach works out. Please continue the evaluation as I may have to send the regular back for the low version. I am also interested to know how comfortable your low seat feels after a few hours in the saddle. What is the longest ride you have done on the seat and how comfortable was it? How did it compare to your freinds regular sargeant in comfort? I will let you know what I think of the regular sargeant goes concerning height and comfort. Link to comment

Your question about how the Sargent low seat feels after a while...For me, it's more comfortable than the stock low seat by a good margin and my butt gets a little tired after an hour or so anyhow..I would guess that's true with any seat....Regular gas stop breaks are enough to solve the problem...A real test with a long week or so ride will begin next week....I like the comfort of the seat....The distance to the ground is noticably farther than with the stock one(see my previous post) and I am careful when I stop on sidehills, etc..... Finalizing my research, my buddy and I measured the height difference between the Sargent low and high seats this afternoon....Both on R1200RT's...We came to the unscientific conclusion that there is about 1" difference ....
