MickFinn
Hi, I've just purchased a ZTechnik Z2402 windshield for my Rt12. I've had one before on my k1200LT and it was brilliant. Has anyone experience of using the Z2402 on the RT12??? Is it much better than the stock item ? Link to comment
TomfromMD
Like many others (but not all), I've found the ZTechnik V Stream shield to be a significant improvement on the R1200RT. I'm 5'10" and on my BMW with low seat, lowered pegs and barbacks, the ZTechnik creates less buffeting. In addition, I find I can comfortably ride with the windshield lower to flow more air in hot weather. Tom Link to comment
BOOCH
However,,,, If you are shorter, you may find as I have, that the shield DOES NOT allow enough air on you on HOT days.I use it in the winter and during rainy days. PS-I live in the Mojave Desert Steve Link to comment
GregB
Useful in the winter in places that get cold which pretty much isn't Southern California. It doesn't allow enough airflow for me in the summer and I'm 6'2". It does turn a R1200RT into a good imitation of a Goldwing, with all the good (in cold) and the bad (in warm or twistys) that you have with one of those except that you do at least have the ability to raise and lower it. MickFinn
Thanks for the comments. Overall it looks positive. It can't be any worse than the stock one. Link to comment
fourteenfour
Yeah, its a little warm in summer (to think summer hit Georgia early) but the wind management is light years ahead of the BMW stock screen, Link to comment
MickFinn
Well, our summers here in Ireland are o.k., not too warm. If the screen can defelect our miserable winter winds it will have been a good investment. We don't have any major extremes in our weather so we get to bike all year round. Link to comment
appledell
Hi, I see that you are in Ireland. I am in the uk and cant get the Vstream anywhere for my R1200RT. Where did you get yours from? Thanks Mike Link to comment
graemer57
Hi Mike I got one direct from the USA via Greg Salgado at Z-technik sales his contact details are: Greg Salgado National Cycle, Inc. Z-Technik Sales (866)983-2465 - Main (708)343-0400 - Ext.127 It cost me £124 plus shipping, arrived quickly and is a massive improvement over the stock screen Graeme Link to comment
Albion
I followed Graeme's advice on buying this screen some months ago, brilliant service from the manufacturer, money well spent. I now use weaker earplugs and actually hear the engine! Pillionist reports improvement in quality of life too. Money well spent. Perhaps only minus is bit more reaction through the bars to strong sidewinds, but no big deal. I'd hate to return to the stock screen. Link to comment
MickFinn
Hi Mike, I sourced mine from Custom Cruisers UK. Just put the name in your search engine and you will get there. It's listed as part number ZT-Z2402 and cost £149.95 including the dreaded V.A.T. Postage extra but reasonable to Ireland. It hasn't arrived yet but have received email confirming despatch. I'm looking forward to trying it. Great reviews from others that have fitted one. A friend of mine told me his RT got "wobbley" at 80/100 m.p.h. when he has his top box fitted. He looked at the specs and thinks if it does what it says in the description it might stop the flutter. He owns a bike shop and is an ex T.T. racer so he knows his bikes. He won't ride anything that's not a B.M.W.Hope Custom Cruisers can sort you out. Link to comment
Jomcc
Just bought my 1200RT approx 3 weeks ago. Absolutely love it but find looking through windshield distorts the view. I don't ride with windscreen fully up (but this solves problem of distortion). When I have it at my preferred height, it's as if I am wearing bi-focal specs. I wonder if any of the aftermarket windshields would help. MickFinn, looking forward to hearing how your's works out in this Irish Weather. Joe. Link to comment
Flash9677
For those in the Detroit area, Detroit BMW them on their RT & GT demo bikes. Nice way to take the shield for a test drive. Link to comment
vtxtundra
Just returned from a 2,300 mile trip with the new Ztechnic shield on my 12RT. Excellent choice to switch to it. All types of riding...interstate, Deal's Gap, etc. It moves the wind around you better. As a bonus, I can hear the radio better. The only drawback that I have found is that it lowers fuel mileage by about 4-5mpg. YMMV. -Craig 2006 R1200RT Link to comment

I have noticed that I keep the windshield a bit lower than the OEM, and that my mileage does decline in the winter (no matter what the windshield) when they add ethanol to our gas. Maybe raising the shield to better hear the radio makes a difference in mpg. Tom Link to comment
MickFinn
Well, eventually got my windshield today. It got lost in transit. It was sent out immediately by Custom Cruisers U.K. but the carrier here in Ireland mustn't think there's life outside Dublin. It was delivered to an address in Dublin where it has been gathering dust since the 21st. of June. Credit due to Mike in Custom Cruisers, he did his best to track it down. I travelled the 220 miles to get it today. I didn't trust another carrier to get it to me. It might have ended up in Nova Scotia or Southeren Australia. I've just fitted it, ( 10mins and a coffee ) and it looks the part. I won't get to try it until tomorrow. Link to comment
