Refitting an 1150RT fuel filler with the 1100 part?

I know it isn't much, but I've heard you can actually get a bit more fuel into your tank if you have the 1100 filler neck instead of the 1150.

  • Is that true?
  • How much extra are we talking about?
  • What is the part number I would need to order?
  • Is it easy to do?
  • Any complications to expect?

Anyone done this? Did you think it worth the effort?

TIA,

You can modify your filler neck to accomplish the same thing. Remove the thing, noting which hose goes where, there are two. Drill 2 1/4" holes just below where the cap gasket seals in the hole. The gasket is tapered so allow for a bit further down. You will have to remove it due to the vent line coiled around the neck and soldered in place. You don't want a hole there.

Now replace it. Careful of the language as you try to wrestle that O-ring back into place and not cross thread the screws.

You can now proudly get about another quart of gas in there, maybe a little more. Only you can decide if it was worth it or not.

Thanks for the information. 1/4 gallon? hmmmm, about 10 miles down the road... doesn't seem worth the effort now.

Of course I might think differently if I have to push the bike for 10 miles some time.. wink.gif
