Drive lash?

Recommended Posts

Drive lash is essentially the sum of all the tolerances in line through a drive train.

For our shafties, it includes the play in the u-joints, splines, etc.

On chains, it is the play in the gears, teh cush drive, etc.

The more "things" in line that have to have the slop taken up is what is shown as drive lash.

To see it, put your bike on its centerstand. Put it in gear. Engine off!!!! tongue.gif

Grab the wheel and turn it clockwise until it stops. Now move it counterclockwise. The movement you feel is the lash.

As things become worn, the lash increases.

Hope this helps.
