Jacqueline
Here goes...my attempt to get caught up..... between now and sitting at the BMW dealership in Settle... that's where I'm headed this morning . Tuesday 5/17 We were hoping to head to Torrey today with the opportunity to stop on the way to see Yosemite, Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks….. Richard sat down with me and went over our route, hand signals he would use, and talked about line splitting. But my bike would not allow it. A bleed of the back brakes revealed the need to change the brake fluid. As Richard went through the process, he explained everything in detail. Next Richard was going to check out the wiring. He was “surprised” when I pulled the seat off to reveal the handy work. At this point the wiring has been worked on by half a dozen people, one of those being myself. Richard was especially “impressed” by my handy work (NOT). He felt my crimp work was lacking…..lacking a proper crimp! Then Richard took on the Star-Traxx device which is doing a good job of tracking me but there was a feature that was not working. Before we know it the day was over and we were still in the Bay area. Our new plan called for us leaving first thing in the morning . Link to comment
Jacqueline
Wednesday 5/16 Richard spent all day Tuesday working on my bike, so he planned (Yea, right . Not with me around .) on getting his bike and stuff together first thing in the morning so we could head to Torrey. We go out to the garage to check the bikes and load them up. I just got the new tires put on Monday; I went to check the tire pressures, put the gage to the front tire and all the air rushes out. What the????? I could tell Richard was not excited. Richard pulls the tire off (I got to watch the process again and I’m confident that I can now pull the tire off and put it back on myself, should I ever need to). Another ride in the four wheeled BMW…. This time was not as spirted, but still spirted. I could tell he was saving it for the bike . Kim was surprised to see us, but was very helpful. When the stem valve was pulled Richard pointed out the problem, the spring on one end had sprung. A new stem valve was put in and we were now ready to get back to Richard’s house and get the tire back on…… . Again. We FINALLY pulled out, headed for Torrey at about 1:00pm. I was getting my first chance to ride with Richard, and I knew he was a great rider. This was also the first time I have seen a GT in action and WOW ! Yes, Richard showed me how to line split and yes I was very nervous about it . I was worried my Jesse bags would make my bike to wide… but Richard had pointed out before we left his house that his bike and bags were wider then mine. So if Richard could make it I should be able to . Had one spot I was not sure I’d make it through…. So I decided it would be better to scrape the bed of a work truck over the side of a car…… not to worry I made it! We were out of town and on our way………………….. We got as far as Mariposa the first day. The owner of the Inn owns a pure white pigeon, that did not like to be photographed We ended up that night with sandwiches for dinner. Richard had a Wish Sandwich …… he wish he had something between the slices of bread . Link to comment

Jacqueline
Thursday 5/17 We headed for Yosemite…. Yes, the roads were now open to the Park. Once in the Park I pulled into a parking lot to take pictures of a waterfall…. where I was almost backed over. A driver backing up did not see me and when I realized he did not see me I froze, I couldn’t even blow my horn. Richard had recently installed an after market horn on his bike (real nice, loud horn), and lucky for me he was quick to use it….. WOW what a National Park! We stopped in Lee Vining for lunch where we met Bill Buck (Bendbill). We were all happy to meet a fellow BMWsporttouring member and Bill was happy we were headed to Torrey…where he wished he was going but could not this time. A martian….. is what I have been called (right Whip)….. Do I really look like a martian? At the Little A”le” Inn I was welcomed by two beautiful dogs. They have wolf and husky in them…but there must be some French in them also as they were trying to French kiss me. After we left the A”le”Inn I really got to see what a GT will do…… lets just say the man can ride……fly We arrived in Caliente, Nevada just after 9:00 pm missing any chance of getting anything decent for dinner….. it was sandwiches again. There was a big desert race coming up that weekend and they had already started to over take the town. (pics taken the following morning) Link to comment

Andy, I'm looking forward to your pictures and input. I'm working on my updates as I sit in the Dealership here in Seattle ... they are doing 1k worth of work on the bike . 24k service, it now has 26k miles on it and is misfiring... and another new chain and sprockets..... it seem like I just replaced those . The bike is being enjoyed, so I best take care of it before I get to the Great White North.... almost there now . Link to comment
Jacqueline
Friday 5/18 At a gas spot this guy wanted to make a deal with Richard...an even trade of bikes. Seems he was in some pain after riding his only 500 miles.... it was a deal Richard could refuse . We arrive at the Chuckwagon in Torrey; right away I’m greeted by Calvin. A familiar face. Calvin said they had been checking the Star-Traxx site but it showed I had not moved in sometime. I looked at the transponder on the bike and found the power supply cord had worked itself lose. I need to remember to check it more often. Visited for a short time then we were off to Killer’s (Bob) house. Killer was kind enough to put me up for the weekend (and it provided a great place for my bike to be worked on (see Sunday). It was then a truck ride back to the Chuckwagon for dinner and BS’ing. While talking in the parking lot waiting for the food line to start, I turned around and was happily surprised when I saw Bill (Roadscholar). I met Kaneman…. What a charter. We had a great time that night talking at the pool. I later realized I’d be seeing a lot of Kaneman as he also was staying at Killer’s (but in the backyard in a tent). It was great meeting so many new people. It felt like I have known them a very long time . I had a GREAT time . What wonderful people. Link to comment

Jacqueline
Saturday 5/19 All of us at Killer’s got up and got ready for the ride we would be taking after we went up to Sweeper Madness for the placing of the signs in memory of Glenno. Went up to the Summit … Meet up with Bill (Roadscholar) and Larry (Whip) and they had talked about the ride I was going on that day and thought it might not be the best ride for…. As if I got hurt or damaged my bike my great adventure very well could come to an end (they have a point). Talked more to Bob (Killer) and a few others. I decided I would do part of the planned ride and then evaluate the route when I could see it better . The ride we were going on was dirt/gravel roads for a few miles and then was best suited for off road. Taking a brake….. Kaneman’s bike appeared to have some kind of leak….. turned out to be chain lube . Coming down into the area where everyone was taking a break ….. it was heavy gravel on a slope . I knew I had to get give it gas and go…… the bike slid out from under me falling on it left side . Breaking off the left Jesse bag and bending the gear shift. I was not hurt, but could tell I had landed hard on my left hip. It took no time at all for everyone to come to aid. (Andy has pics for this “event”) I decided I would continue on to the top of the summit to see the view and evaluate it I would continue after that. What a VIEW!!!!!!!! Decided I would not continue any further, I had to now go back down a large hill…the road with a surface like in the picture above. It was steep and I was doing okay until I hit a wash out area. Tried to hang onto the bike, but ended up grabbing the throttle . Now I was going way to fast….. tried to slow the bike down….. the back end slid and the bike went over on its right side….. breaking off the right Jesse bag, bending the brake peddle, breaking the back right turn signal, and pinning my foot under the bike . Bill hurried down the hill, while Richard hurried up the hill to my aid. Andy has some pics just before and just after this happened and I hope he will post them (I’d like to see them again). It was time to take another route…… I kept Bill and Richard busy that day…… if they weren’t picking my bike up they were moving it for me….. I wish I had legs! Richard (Benicia RT), Larry (Whip), and Bill (Roadscholar) Bill (Roadscholar) What a GREAT DAY!!!! I'm one happy girl! Link to comment

Jacqueline
Sunday 5/20 What a day…for my bike. It was time to do repairs to the bike to make it trip worthy. Andy was wonderful and willing to let Richard take parts from his Jesse Bag system to repair mine. What a wonderful group of people. I think I enjoy the people, more then I do my bike. But it is because of my bike that I get to meet so many wonderful people . Time to leave and start heading north… .. I think that is where I will find Alaska ! I hated to leave behind Richard and Bill as I had become pretty dependent on them the past few days. But I’m sure Richard was getting tired of looking at my bike. Thank you Richard for putting me up and for putting up with me. Thank you Bob (Killer) for sharing your home and garage. Thank you Bill for coming to my aid. Thank you Mike for your help with getting my Jesse bags working. Thank you Andy for allowing parts to be removed from your bike. Thank you Larry for getting the bolts. Thank you Paul, Thank you Doc, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.. I had a great time in Torrey…… Link to comment

Jacqueline
I made my way into Idaho, Oregon…… Half way through Oregon I realized I would soon be in Washington , and realizing a life goal I had set for my self over three years ago. I was over whelmed with emotion . I met John Lang when I stopped for something to eat. John had a hip replacement back in Oct. and was now getting out on his bike again.... a VStar. And Washington, I was surprised to see all the vineyards!!!! As well as all the groves/orchards…. I was told the state produces a lot of Apples, Pears, Apricots and other fruits. I would have liked to spend more time in these states, but I no longer had time due to going to Torrey!!!!! Don’t get me wrong I’m very happy I went to Torrey!!!!! Jacqueline
Wednesday my beloved bike and I spent at Ride West BMW in Seattle . Tuesday evening while lubing the chain I noticed it was real lose again. I looked in my dealer book for the closest dealer, called and left them a message that I would be on the door step first thing in the morning . I did not realize Seattle was SO BIG!!!!! And for someone who was there for the first time the dealership was not easy to get to. I felt like an airplane coming in for a landing that was then put on a holding pattern….. I kept circling and circling until I finally came in for a landing….. At the dealership. Now this is a FRIST The bike was also in need of its 24k service and was actually 2k over and was misfiring. They were great at Ride West BMW…. They had a full day before I arrived but were great and worked me in . A look at the chain and I was told I needed a new chain and sprockets…. I just had them replaced before I started my adventure….. Last week the tires, this week the chain and sprockets… I guess I’ve been doing some riding. Vicky in the service department: Colin the Parts Manager Don in Sales When I have more time I need to get back to Seattle... they are willing to show me around and have offered me a place stay. New chain and spockets..... aren't they pretty? This gentlemen was headed to Hyder..... All done at the dealership and it was time to head to the boarder Secenes from the town on the US side just before I crossed over..... Next BC and on to Hyder, Alaska. (will try and update more tonight). It’s 4:30 am and it’s daylight ALREADY!!!!! Today I will finally be in Alaska .
