Francois_Dumas
Today we'll have the last 'summer' day of this week.... temps will go down from 86 F to 55F according to the forecast. So I hoped on the bike to ride around the region a bit and get you some pictures of our tulip fields..... I think this may also serve as 'my bunch of flowers' for Leslie's birthday That said, it is getting more complicated every year. The fields are not close to most roads anymore, and as soon as the flowers blossom, they get cut already, in order to maintain as much energy in the bulbs as possible.... after all, it is the bulbs that are sold, not the flowers !!! In the old days we would see miles and miles of coloured fields, with people cutting off the flowers by hand... but that took days and weeks to achieve. Now they mechanized most of it and the flowers are there in the morning... gone in the afternoon sometimes !! However.. I was lucky.. (AND did quite a few miles today!).... and found enough to show. I've also made some photos of the roads I travelled to get to them..... The rest doesn't need words........ now.... let the bad weather come....... Francois Link to comment

Orpheum
Francois, Great pic's! As a second generation American/Dutchman I really appreciate your photo's and rides. From the photo's of the orderly countryside I can see why when I pick a piece of paper off the garage floor I wind up cleaning the whole garage though. Link to comment
Francois_Dumas
Boy, am I glad we don't have a garage ! Glad you enjoyed them ! Link to comment
wilsons
In one of those pictures there is a wind turbine. Those are very interesting to me anyway, as they produce power based on the wind. in the U.S. I think there is a wind farm around the Huston area. that's a loooooot of flower's man, how long did it take you to plant all those? Francois_Dumas
Just a few more years and we'll have more wind turbines in Holland than flowers !!! There's also a wind farm off shore in the North Sea, and the new polders are full with them.... there's always wind here ! Link to comment
AdventurePoser
Just beautiful, Francois! I hope one day Jennifer and I can come over and see for ourselves. I'd particulary like to visit that little restaurant on the water... Steve Link to comment
