Another "Ohlins are better than ESA" post

Just got back from a 200 mile ride with new Ohlins on my 05 RT. The ESA's that were replaced had 17,200 miles on them. I was hesitant to replace them as these were the first stock BMW shocks I actually liked. I have Ohlins on my 04 GS and the difference was substantial, but was uncertain whether the improvement over the ESA would be worth it.

However, it only took riding out of the driveway to be happy with my choice. As others have said, they instantly make you a better rider & much more confident. On a 1-10 scale, the difference in the 3 ESA modes is a "2" and the difference between ESA & Ohlins is a "10". The difference is drastic, not at all subtle.

I weigh 175 (about 190 w/gear) & I plan to carry up to 50-60 lbs of gear. My dealer said I needed the stiffer springs, which I did get.

If & when I replace this RT, I will definitely not get ESA & put the Ohlins on immediately. IMHO, if you can afford it, go for the Ohlins - you won't regret it.
