rickmoen
I plan on doing some serious distance rides (for me) this summer and will most likely be spending some nights in motels. It goes without saying that it would be a real bummer to have my bike stolen or messed with. So, I'm considering the BMW alarm system. Any comments or "quick reviews" from current owners or other security options? As always, thank you in advance for the input. Rick Link to comment
LGannon
As a retrofit item, the BMW is IMO over priced, there are better and less expensive options available, as a factory fit option when buying a new bike then I would choose it because its going to be installed to a higher standard than a retrofit (BMW or other) Link to comment
rogera
I have the factory alarm on mine. When I went to Texas last month for the HCR I used it every night. However, I think covering it every night did about as much good. No body ever fooled with it. BMW's as a rule are not real high on the theft list. Most of the places I stayed where real good about waching it. Bottom line though is I did sleep better knowing the alarm was on. Link to comment

Uggles
Leslie is right in saying it's a bit pricey ($750.00AUD in 2003) but I fitted mine soon after I bought it and haven't looked back. The piece of mind factor is what got me. Cheers, Link to comment
akasjl
I have the factory alarm and if I had to do it all over again, I'd get an aftermarket unit or none at all. The BMW alarm is defintely overpriced, and their are plenty other units out there that will do the job. Reality is BMW's are't a big target for thieves. And if they really want it . . . If you want piece of mind, get a unit. Link to comment
