AL 3923

Don't mean to start a thread just report my pleasure. I Put the AL3923 in my 03' 1150 RT (single spark) last night, hard start and the rough idle went completely away. Throttle seems more predictable. For me it really made a difference.

Can anyone tell me why? I would love to know why these plugs worked so much better.

1) They have a tip that projects a bit farther into the cylinder, this could help ignite the fuel better, particularily at low concentrations.

2) They are a hotter plug that the stock. Probably too hot for anyone that rides the bike hard. AL3922 would be a better choice but is harder to find.

For the record, I run AL3923 plugs in both Jan's R1100RT and my R1150RT. I've never had a problem with them in either bike.

Thanks, sounds like I should look into some AL 3922's then. I live in Arizona and often see my oil temp go high.

Thanks Again,

Alan

You might want to consider pulling them out in a few thousand miles and checking for any signs of them running too hot. Also listen for any changes in how the bike runs, detonation, more pinging, etc.

I don't think that a high oil temp has much impact on plug temperature. We are talking parts that are exposed to burning gasoline and how well they transfer that heat to the metal head they are screwed into. Some extra Arizona sunshine won't have much impact on that.

What did you gap the autolites at for your '02 RT ?

I've used .032" most often, but I've also tried .035" and it worked just fine too.

The tighter gap gives you more room for wear, but since I change them everytime I adjust the valves that isn't a factor in my case.

Before you ask, I pull the plugs so I can check them, and so I can find TDC. For $1.25 each I figure it's just not worth re-using them and their seals.

I just put in a pair of AL3923's gapped at .032 at the 18000 mile service I just did. Wow what a nice difference with a smoother slightly higher (1100) idle and better throtle reponse and smoothness up through the rev range. $1.50 each makes the mod pretty amazing! I'll keep an eye on the color/condition to make sure they are not too hot. I ordered and received a set of AL3922's in case I need them, but hopefully these will burn just fine! thumbsup.gif

i went by the parts house today and asked for AL 3923, but all they had was AP3923. they did not list a 3922. am i missing something here. autolite makes a AP 3923 not an AL 3923.

AP3923 is platinum plug

Regular plug is Autolite 3923 (no letters).

An internet search for Autolite 3922 brings up tons of hits. You just picked an auto shop that doesn't stock the 3922, most don't, unlike the 3923 that can be found almost everywhere.
