JHP
So, I can plainly see how speed detection for the ABS and speedo works on the front wheel. And I can see the rear wheel speed sensor. My question is, what does the rear wheel sensor sense? Some teeth/wheel inside the rear differential? Link to comment
Lawman
I think it's magic like television.. Link to comment
ShovelStrokeEd
I think the sensor looks at the gear teeth on the ring gear in the rear drive. Something like 33 teeth per revolution of the rear wheel which is more than enough to resolve road speed. Actually, if you know wheel diameter, one tooth and a timer is enough. Link to comment
Mudman
There is a sensor ring machined onto the back side of the ring gear. It has something around 80 teeth to provide the resolution for ABS regulation. BTW the front has 100 windows. Link to comment
