Nick1150
I wasready to excange my 2002 R1150RT with a 2006 R1200RT with less than 6000 kms on the clock, when a friend told me that the 2007 models come with ASC, and some other features that may do the difference. Whats your opinion ? Should I trade with a new one 2007 model or not ? Link to comment
99Roadster
ASC as well as the tire pressure monitor is available for '07 but the biggest difference is no more servo-assisted brakes as with the '05 and '06's. Link to comment
Ken H.
Should I trade with a new one 2007 model or not ? How big is your bank account? Or credit line? Seriously, once you ride the R1200RT, I'm betting it well be no contest. It's that big of an improvement over the R1150RT IMHO. ACS is an option. You can get it, or not. Link to comment
ScottT
The biggest difference between the 2005/2006 R1200RTs and 2007s is the braking system. 2007s and up have the Continental-Teves which is not servo assist. If I were you and decided to go the used RT route, I'd look for a for 2005 RT. Why? Cheaper. Functionally there's no difference between the 2005 and 2006 models. If you find a well priced 2005 it is guaranteed to have cruise control. It was standard on the 2005 models, but optional on 2006 and up RTs. However, if you've got the loot go for the 2007 with the stuff you want on it. Either way you'll be getting a great bike. Link to comment
Nick1150
Well to be honest the brakes are enough for me to order a 2007 12RT. I have already tested the bike, but are there any folks outhere, that have tried both 06 & 07 RTs. Is there any actual difference ? My delima is whether to order a 2007 brand new model with all upgrades vs a 2006 used 12RT with +/-5000 kms on the clock Thanks again Link to comment
John Bentall
From what road tests I have read, professional road-testers prefer the action and progressive feel of the new brakes. A R1200R equipped with the new brakes, swept all before it in a comparison test. With a professional rider, it stopped faster in the wet than an ABS Yamaha FJR1300 in the dry. Sounds like you should go for the 2007. Link to comment
AZRTRDR
I have had both an 05 and now have an 07. While I prefer the non assisted 07's brakes, the 05's brakes would not put me off of buying one. I am on my 5th BMW, the 07 being the first w/o power assist and I just feel more comfortable w/o the complexity of the servos. But then again, I had zero problems with the others and did in fact appreciate the servo assist on the heavy LT, model. And that's your 2 cents worth. Enjoy the ride, whichever. Link to comment
LuckyLeif
I demo-rode 05, 06 and ended up buying an 07 (which I did not demo). I was impressed with the RT from my first demo ride, but I couldn't justify selling my 05GS until it was nearing its warranty end. I can recall no differences in riding the 3 bikes other than the braking systems. The new system is pretty much "transparent" no funky noises or grabbiness that some people dislike with the servo system. Allegedly the new system is easier to service, but I haven't yet heard of anyone doing a brake fluid change on an 07. Link to comment
ckatopodis
I have an '06 RT and don't find the servo assisted brakes grabby. I am also probably the only person that likes the sound of the servos. I like to squeeze and release the brakes at stoplights just to hear 'em whine. Link to comment
99Roadster
Rode an '05 nearly 1,000 miles before getting the '07. The '05 brakes were more sensitive but not grabby. The '07 is more like my '99 R1100R where it is more linear. Either year would be fine for me. Link to comment
sebjones906
I tried the 05 and the 06 and the servo brakes were something that put me off completely. On the 07 I also understand that the front and rear brakes are no longer linked in the same way. To me IMHO the difference was so great that I bought the 07. And the pushbutton suspension adjustment is double nifty. Now if I could get the seat to fit my butt or my butt to fit the seat everything would be perfect. Link to comment
MikeB
I too like the sound of the servos on my bike. On my 06, the assist is much less than it was on my 03. They don't feel like they are assisted at all. In fact, I wish they would a little. Link to comment
HexHead
I have an '06 RT and don't find the servo assisted brakes grabby. I am also probably the only person that likes the sound of the servos. I like to squeeze and release the brakes at stoplights just to hear 'em whine. I especially enjoy it when there's a car near me with a dog in it. On the serious side, I like the servo assisted brakes. Link to comment
HexHead
On the 07 I also understand that the front and rear brakes are no longer linked in the same way. No, they are still partially integrated. Link to comment
kcallstate
Don't let the braking issue make you spend more $$ than necessary. If you get an '05 or '06 with the servo-assisted brakes it will take you about a minute and a half to get used to it and then you'll never worry about it again. And if it didn't whine (something you also will get used to), you would forget about it altogether. Yeah, some like the feel, some don't... but if you know how to ride a bike, it is just plain a non-issue. I saved thousands on a slightly used 06'RT and the brakes are the same as my 1150RT.. GREAT!
