motorbob
Does anyone know what can be done about those ugly brown pipes on the RT. Are there aftermarket headers available ? I saw a 05 RT with 55 000 mi. The bike looked brand new but the pipes were badly discoloured and ruined the looks of a beautiful machine. I would be embarassed to show my RT in such a condition. JayW
Send them to PerformanceCoatings.com to have them work their magic for about $110. I had this done about 18k miles ago, and they still look great. Jay Link to comment
Ken H.
What Jay said. They did mine on our GS, looks 500% better. Link to comment
motorbob
Thanks, I will check it out. Any pictures after a few thousand miles ? Link to comment
jtb
I kind of like the ugly brown pipes!! Link to comment
Firefight911
Here is what they look like after about 9000 miles of riding. There is a slight berown tint to them in this photo. This washes right off and they are then the exact same color as they were the day I got them back from Performance! Go for it, you won't be sorry! Link to comment
Maggie
What is the coating/treatment that they put on the pipes? From your picture, it does not look like chrome? Link to comment
JayW
Find attached a photo of my pipes after about 5000 miles. They have very slightly dulled since then at the front, but they still look a far sight better than my original pipes did within 10 minutes of riding it off the showroom. I have the chromex coating. RFW
What is the coating/treatment that they put on the pipes? From your picture, it does not look like chrome? Ceramic, I believe. Chrome would turn blue just like the stainless does. After all, the pipes near the cylinder can actually glow dull red if you idle the bike for a couple of minutes. Link to comment
Firefight911
Maggie, It is a ceramic coating. It is available in many different colors. Chromex is the color that most looks like chrome, however; since my header was the stocker and contained a catalytic converter, they would not do the chromex color as it does not have the ability to withstand the potential temps generated by the catalytic converter. JayW
Interesting. I wonder why they agreed to do my pipes with the Chromex coating. I have a Cat too. Jay Link to comment

Sheesh, a guy rides 4000 miles to, from, and in Texas, completes his 2nd SS1K and a BB1500 and I am told I don't move on my bike. Where's that Rodney Dangerfield photo?? I may need that!
