Using SAE connectors - polarity - any standards?

Lot's of us install SAE connectors for Gerbings, etc. Is there any standard for connecting them polarity-wise? Example: on the lead from the battery, which is the ground? The male prong or female socket (anybody else getting excited grin.gif) ?

Don't know if there are any standards but I know if you have any male ends exposed they'd better not be hot (to eliminate shorts or blown fuses).

That makes sense. No wonder I didn't think about it. dopeslap.gif

How can one check the polarity of something like a Gerbing controller?

Also, would it be safe to assume that the inline connectors follow the same reasoning, i.e., the exposed outer barrel is the ground?

Yes, the barrel of the inline is ground.

On the controller with SAE, the input side of the controller the exposed prong is positive since the battery lead which connects to it would have the recessed socket hot. On the output side of the controller the recessed socket is positive, so it won't short out when no jacket is connected.
