maxscycle
Folks, Just installed a garmin streetpilot 3 gps on my 06r1200gs. Picked up power/ground from the onboard socket just behind/under the seat on the left. Worked fine on the day trip with numerous stops. (as far as I could tell). When I parked in the (dark) garage, the gps stayed on (as it should for 15 minutes). But after about one minute it should off and the front and rear parking lights start flashing about 4 times an second. Pulling the plug in the onboard socket makes the flashing stop. I checked furthur and this happens if the gps is on or if it is off.. Any ideas? Max Link to comment
AZRTRDR
Are you sure that the plug that you tapped isnt the computer link plug? or maybe the alarm plug? I really ahve no idea but those are a couple of things to check. Good luck Link to comment
BucksTherapy
I do not know what plug you may have plugged into but some of the folks on this site have had success connecting the wires going to the accessory socket in the left fron dash. Others have successfully used the socket close to the ignition switch. One option that is quite popular is using power from the battery either through a relay or direct. If I were doing this I would use power from the acc socket or through a relay switche off the acc socket and using power from the battery. Given the number of unusual results I would make sure that I got power and ground for each circuit from the same source. In other words I would make sure that the current going into and out of the acc socket or the battery are the same. Just a hunch but grounding a circuit somewhere else on the bike or CanBus could be causing some of the strange results. I'm sure there are folks on this site that have worked with this more then I and I would like to hear their thoughts. Link to comment
Ken H.
Picked up power/ground from the onboard socket just behind/under the seat on the left. The big round one, or small two-lead squarish one? If the former, that's the computer diagnostic connector. If using the correct leads, you can pick up power there, but IMHO it's a poor idea as it's sure to raise a dealer's eyebrow as soon as they see it. Link to comment

Ken H.
YMMV Yeah that's for sure. Some of these dealers seem to be willing to pull the "no warranty" trigger if you washed the darn thing! Link to comment

Do what?????? Well I was being a bit melodramatic, but some of the excuses for voiding a warranty that have been tossed about lately have been a bit over the top. Link to comment
