DonB
I have a few thousand miles on my 07 and it seems to me that the spring rates are very soft. I am coming off an 02 1150RS and the 07 springs feel "mushy". Anyone else feel this way? I have no ESA. Don Link to comment
AceVentura
I just bought an '07 without ESA last weekend. When I went over the bike with the salesman he said that BMW sets the spring preload for the average German, about 160 pounds. He was kinda joking about the weight of the average German because he was about 245 and I am about 235. We adjusted the preload pretty high. I don't have a point of reference since this is my first BMW, but I am happy with the ride so far. P.S. I just looked at the manual page 71, it says "STD" assumes a rider of 187 lbs and a full tank of gas. My sales man didn't adjust the damping, I think I will play with that to see what happens. Stephen H
Don .... there is good news and bad news .... Bad news first .... the shock will just get worse as the miles increase Now the good news .... what you saved on the ESA will fund the Ohlins and transform your RT Link to comment

Don It may have something to due with the fact that I only weigh 150 pounds but I find the stock spring rates on my 07 RT to be very frim even when set to the softest settings. Link to comment
KiwiAdventure
I had mine replaced under warranty. The rear is better, but still a little soft Link to comment
Valkyrie
I moved from an 1150RT to a 1200RT last Summer and the only thing that isn't better is the rear spring. Most of my riding is 2-up touring and the suspension is way too soft, even with the pre-load cranked right up. I need to look into getting a better spring. Link to comment
DonB
I think you guys confirmed what I was feeling. I am 245 and ride aggressive sport touring. I did not get the ESA for fear that the rates would not be good enough. SO.....Looks as if Ohlins or Wilbers are in the near future. Anyone riding at a spirited pace using either? Thanks Don Link to comment
CraCol
Anyone riding at a spirited pace using either? ThanksDon I'm runing Ohlins on an '05 12RT.. I weigh in at just over 200lbs, and ride 2 up 50% of the time. Stock springs are way to soft, and the standard Ohlins spring rate was on the soft side as well.. Had the next step spring installed and it transformed the bikes handling.. Amazing what using the right spring rate will do.. Ride Safe. Link to comment
