Whip
171 years ago today the Alamo fell. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Alamo To honor the battle every year a small group of volunteers reenact different parts of the battle. Because they're volunteers they usually pick the nearest weekend to the actual date to put on the costumes, fire up the cannons for a fun demonstration with some action. This year they attacked the south wall on Saturday and then the north wall on Sunday. (I missed the north wall attack) I always enjoy talking with the tourist who think the city does this every weekend for them. The city actually has nothing to do with it. And it’s not every weekend. In order to make this a Ride Tale I had to suffer through some Texas Spring weather, about 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky on Saturday and Sunday. Today was a little cloudy, but it's the only way I can get the bike near the Alamo for some pix. I hope you enjoy the pix. Travis Bowie Innocents Future Texan Preparing for battle Tennessee Vol. No battle without music Defending the south wall. Attacking the south wall FIRE!!!!! Santa Anna....."it looks like we win again." I could use a smoke....why do we always have to lose. Any volunteers.....The Alamo needs defenders. These fine young men step right up. Mike O
Whip, We forget about these sorts of historic events. I'm glad you took the time to share these pictures. I'm sure that had some of the soldiers benefited from that powered vehicle in the first and last shot, the battle would have been far different! Mike O Link to comment

tallman
Whip, I love history. Keep 'em coming. [ jak] Not quite sure how you managed to survive the heat in your delicate condition. I'd consider a move to somewhere with more snow so you don't subject yourself to such stress. Had the same problem here. 42 degrees in the morning and 76 in the afternoon. Oh, 14% humidity. I'm dying here. [ jak] Our area is replete with historical sites. Last weekend the reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge commemorated the battle for Tallahassee, the only Confederate capital not to fall during the war. Like I said, keep 'em coming.
