After trying several locations for the state inspection sticker with little luck.......I need some help. Where do you place the inspection sticker on a R1150RT??

In Texas it is common to use a thin metal backing plate like this that mounts under the license plate and drops down below the plate a little to provide a convenient mounting place for the sticker.

First you may want to check with your DMV Office. In the mighty state of MO, it has to be on the left fork. My inspector was nice enough to put it way around on the inside of the fork.

In NC I don't think it has to be visible. On my GT you have to get on the ground by the front tire and look UP into the fairing to see it. On my GS you have to look up onto the underside of the beak.

In VA it's supposed to be on the left fork tube. Mine's on an aluminum plate mounted with one of the left caliper bolts.

Yes, Mortons in Virginia sells small aluminum plates that fit under the front caliper bolts (tip: you need different caliper bolts for this, which they include). In my county I need inspection on one side and a tax sticker on the other so I have two. Reasonable solution.

However, to the best of my knowledge, after almost 26 years of motorcycling in VA, never has a policeman looked at either sticker, unless he did so when the bike was parked and I was out of it's sight (rare).

Not having inspection and tax information in the same database as the license plate number is like a throwback to the 1950's.

I put my parking-lot permit sticker on a metal plate that I mounted below my license plate.

The plate serves another purpose, too. It's covered with white reflective tape, for visibility purpose. It's mounted in the two holes on the rear folder.

I'm also from VA and mine on both my bikes are in an envelope in the tourpack. Never been stopped for no showing it. However, I have seen the plates from Mortons that was mentioned previously.

Besides generating revenue for the state, what is the purpose of the inspection sticker? Also, do cars and trucks get stickers in your state as well?

In the UK we have a 'Tax disc'. These are often fairly neat devices that can be bolted to the lower section of the left hand fork leg (or wherever). I don't know how big your inspection sticker is, but if it fits, it looks like the neatest solution out of all the things advised so far.

They are readily available in the UK - but mail order specialists like M & P sell them (http://www.mandp.co.uk/)

Cars and motorcycles need to get an inspection sticker every 2 and 1 year respectively in NJ. There is NO cost involved. It serves to verify that the basic equipment works (headlights, turn signals, brake lights, horn, etc). It also requires that the vehicle be registered and insured.

Additionally, cars are tested for OBD-II compliance, gas cap pressure test, etc. A "service engine light" ON would be a rejection. They also put it on a Dyno every alternate(?) inspection but I'm not sure what the objective is. They get a kick out of it when I take my Viper in. tongue.gif

So I guess NJ get's no revenue and we have safer cars on the road. clap.gif

we have safer cars on the road.

Actually all the studies and statistics I've seen show that states without mandatory safety inspections have no more accidents due to defective equipment than those states with safety inspections.

Both cars and automobiles must get a safety inspection every year in VA. For cars they need a smog inspection every two years.

Is it worthwhile for bikes? Not really. I take mine to a car dealer for inspection, and they have no clue what is safe on my bike.
