any problems expected with low miles/low frequency bike?

I'm looking at possibly buying a US registered bike in Europe since I spend so much time there now. The current owner has been using it once to several times per year for the last several years. It is a '96 RT with 40K miles. I'm not sure how the previous owner used it.

Is there anything in particular to worry about that the irregularity of use may have caused? I'll probably start riding it all over the continent, to moscow and back, etc. It is stored in Munich and my company HQ is there, so it will likely stay there for the time being.

Stored inside I hope. If so then sounds like a easy buy.

Things to look for include vermin damage which is easy to spot. Droppings and nesting also any eaten rubber, plastic or wire.

Inspect for corrosion especially around electric connections. Also road salt corrosion to alloys.

Check usual things like all fluids and smell the gas! If it's gone to varnish that could cause big problems.

Go for it!

They like to nest in the air filter. If possible, open the filter box and have a look prior to starting the engine. Be prepared for something to jump out. I screamed like a little girl when that happened. Nothing like mom and the wife laughing at you bncry.gif

Actually, Sam already has experience with finding inappropriate materials inside his air filter. dopeslap.gif
