Gleno says, "Riders, check in!"

Riders, drivers, and all others who traveled to Boulder City for the weekend, please be sure to check in here when you get home. There's also a thread started in the Other Topics forum to talk more about your thoughts and feelings from the weekend.

Made it home from Boulder City at 8:40 pm MST. Rode with Arizona Al. Took us almost an hour to get from the Best Western to the dam (normally, a 10 minute ride). Some rain and cold off and on. But otherwise, an uneventful ride home.

This was a very special weekend for those of us who were there. It's difficult to express the extremes of joy and sadness, and more emotions than I can express right now. As horribly sad as we all were at the loss of Gleno, we still found lots of opportunities to laugh and cry as we each told our Gleno stories. Seeing so many good friends from this board helped to lift our spirits, and seeing so many people from other boards kept showing us how much Gleno was loved by so many. Members of our board flew or drove in from all over the country. Folks flew down from the Pacific Northwest sport bike club, and one guy drove 26 hours from Houston to be there, although he had never met Gleno in person. Although we were all there to mourn his death, we spent much of the time celebrating his life. I'm sure that's what Gleno would have wanted from us.

I'll let others who have clearer heads, and who are less tired, tell more about the weekend. It was one that I'm not likely to forget.

Thank you Howard, and to all those that did attend the services. I've been Jones'n all day from the East Coast. There was not a moment that passed without the thought of Gleno and the services today... My personal appreciation to those that attended goes very deep.

Ditto what Philly said-- I got home about 15 minutes after splitting off from him.

It was great seeing everyone who was there and Spring Torrey is something everyone should be thinking about now so we can have a real memorial ride for Gleno---

Hope everyone else makes it home safe--

Oh, and the memorial ride. That was a sight to behold. I have no idea how many bikes were on this ride this morning, but I'm sure it was more than 200. I was somewhere around the middle of the group. All I could see in front of me, as far as I could see, were bikes. All I could see in back of me, as far as I could see, were bikes. Every kind of bike. Every kind of rider. The Roughriders Club, which from my limited perspective is an all African-American sport bike club, had 30 or 40 riders in attendance, and they spent most of the ride blocking traffic at intersections, keeping traffic on the freeways from cutting us off, racing back and forth to get into position to allow us to stay together and keep the group moving. They did a great job, even if there were a few cage drivers who seemed to have a mission to get in the middle of our ride. There were sport bikes, cruisers, touring bikes, a few guys in colors, and even a Ural with a side car (plug for Sammy). At one point I said over the radio, "Gleno would have loved this. We're breaking laws left and right. Having a parade without a permit. Blocking traffic. Going through stop lights and stop signs. Riding on the shoulder. Even speeding a time or two." Gleno would have love it.

If someone else doesn't post one first, tomorrow I'll post a photo of the bikes that were in front of me. At first I wasn't going to do the memorial ride, but I'm glad that I went. Thanks, Beav, for saying to me, "You know, you might regret it later if you don't." He was right. I would have.

Mikko and I got back into town about 7:30 and as you and Al, spent a lot of time on the dam. It was a weekend I too will long remember. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Like Philly said, the group ride was something I won't ever forget. The best part, was it had no real purpose other then paying tribute to Gleno. We did not stop along the way, or vist Gleno's favorite hangouts. Several hundred motorcycles tooling through Vegas making a mockery of the traffic laws, disrupting a lot of cages, causing the freeways to get backed up a little made it so much sweeter because I am sure Gleno was up somewhere saying ya baby.

Gar and I just made it in. Got a little stuck with traffic outside of Barstow but once the feds realized we were'nt smuggling killer fruit the speeds got back to normal.

I can't even begin to describe this weekend so I'm not going to try. Suffice to say it was standing room only at the service and even with that there was a large number that couldn't get in.

I do want to thank the Roughriders Street club for taking such good care of us and the situation. At one intersection a car was trying to push it's way through the line and I witnessed a young guy park his bike in the street, run over and smack his hand on the hood and stop the idiot in his tracks. They sure showed the love to Gleno's friends.

Well it's time to call it a night, hope all make it back safe and sound.

Arrived home a couple of hours ago, blustery through the Mojave, but at least there wasn't any traffic.

It was nice seeing everyone but I wish it had been under different circumstances. I felt fortunate to be able to both laugh and grieve with "family".

Thanks for the info Howard (and others) I was thinking of Gleno and the service all day today. Wish I could have been there. Did anybody take pictures?

10:50 PM arrived home.

Goodbye Gleno.

Hope you liked your sendoff. Literally hundreds of motorcycle riders among others all gathered to pay their respects. You had a lot of friends. I feel very fortunate to have been one of them.

Goodbye Gleno...

In warm & dry after a quick out & back.

This A.M. was wet until we(Steve, Carl & I) popped over into the dessert.

Then we were treated to the smell of just rained on sage.

I figured Gleno arranged this with the man up stairs.

Thanks Gleno, I always loved that smell thumbsup.gif

It was very nice to see one & all.

Wish the circumstances were better bncry.gif

Had a nice escort back home from Russell W. & Norah.

Norah claims Gleno was messing with her bike blush.gif

I want to thank everyone that had the ability to attend the services in any respect. Rainy and I really wanted to be there but it was impossible. I have been really quiet about Gleno's passing since it was first posted. I am very bad at dealing with death and haven't lost a close friend (other than a pet) since 1987. I don't think I have a day without tears since Wed. Deep in my heart I still can't believe its true.... bncry.gif

Rest in peace brother....

As I said in my yahoo blog.....see you on the other side with a full tank of gas and a fresh set of tires.... frown.gif

"What??!! No tri-tip?? They said it was a Gleno BBQ and there's no tri-tip? Drove all the way from LA and no tri-tip."

Man, Gleno was always the center of attention. He sure didn't have to do THIS to draw a crowd. But, oh mang, he drewed a CROWD with a capital l-OWD!

Tony_K and his bride of 1 year (today, Happy A-versary!) showed up at our house grey and early. Pouring friggin' rain. The heavens are even crying.

Arrival in Gleno City just after noon. After hugging many folk, They started to arrived. You hear it first: The bike processional. Holy cow! As far as you could see. Of course, seeing that started the waterworks for all over, but luckily not for the camera.

IMG_0225.jpg

Gang, this doesn't even start to show how many. There was a guy behind me counting, "121, 122, 123..." (Thought,"Dayyum, GMac's number game's got legs!!") The bike afterwards at the park.

IMG_0232.jpg

The was one, though. Wassat on da sidecar??

Uralzoomed.jpg

People filing into the hall. "Captain, yur gonna need a bigger boat!" PACKED, people all over outside.

After the service, we milled around, telling Glenoisms while the poor lady minister goes around picking up Kleenexi (plural?) from the carpet from WAY too much eye juice flowing.

Met over at the park for the Sin City Sportbike's BBQ. Nice spot overlooking the lake.

IMG_0239.jpg

Found TMac. MAJOR tears flowing and hugs given and received. Folks, never met "Hot Wifey", but I can see why Gleno was the giver of love he was. She was his refill if he ever needed. Just like Gleno, only met once, but love her to death.

Wonderful day for a horrible reason. Great seeing all of you.

Thanks, SCS crew. You da best.

It's Monday morning and I feel more at peace. Got in last night. Yeah, Gleno had a little fun with my front tire (had a hole in it). But thanx to Eric, who had a repair kit, we made it home just fine. It was a bitter sweet trip to make, but I'll never regret it. Howard, you pretty much summed up the weekend. One thing, the sunset yesterday was really awesome; that was Gleno talken to us.

Home safe this morning after an all night drive.

I think we all knew how much love Gleno openly and abundantly shared with us but to witness the breadth of the communities that Gleno touched in the same way was truly breathtaking. Participating in the memorial ride was beautiful ... the line of bikes seem to go on forever. I'm sure the standing-room only service only scratched the surface of how many lives he touched and hopefully inspired. I keep trying to imagine how large a circle it would have had to have been if they all stood hand-in-hand and then I tear up again trying to grasp how this one man had enough love, compassion and time to encircle them all. As his eulogy so aptly stated, Gleno was truly "larger than life"! May he continue to inspire us all!

Many thanks to Sin City Sportbikes group for all they did in organizing the day's events and for the love and support for Glen's family. Also, many thanks to the Rough Riders for protecting us all on the ride.

And finally, many thanks to both the familiar and the new faces from this group that shared the day of remembrance and celebration and welcomed me back after too many years. I realize that I've missed this group greatly and cannot imagine missing Torrey this spring.

Carl, Eric, and I rolled into the Best Western promptly at 1300. It was incredible seeing the diversity of those who called Gleno friend, and wonderful to meet a few members of this board I've only known thru the internet.

I was awestruck by the weather...icy blue skies with towering clouds, whipped up by a pretty good wilnd. After the service I had a strong urge to ride, so I did. Maybe it was my heavy heart crying out, I don't know!

Headed off toward the weather and the dam, but no way was I going to sit in THAT parking lot. After a quick U-turn, I motored thru Boulder City again, and then off to Searchlight, and ultimately home.

As the afternoon wore on the shadows grew longer and the desert mountains turned a fiery golden, contrasting brightly with the sky. The R12RT purred happily along underneath me as I flew through the desert, reflecting on Gleno, and the friends I've made thru this Board.

It was a majestic ride-one to remember for the rest of my riding days. Thanks everyone, for being part of it! And, thanks Gleno, for smiling on down from above...

Cheers,

Steve in So Cal

From the scsportbikes.com site, a link to a video of the memorial ride, apparently at the very beginning. Counted up about a hundred bikes, but the video may have started after the bikes began to roll out (and may have ended before they were all gone). Around 1:25, you can see a couple of the Ruff Riders holding up two lanes of traffic so everyone can pull out in one big group. Very well-executed.

And was that Sammy's side-car Ural I saw goin' by about halfway through?

Link to comment

Yep, it was the only side car in the group. We could have used a machine gun mounted on the turret, though. Would have cleared a few more cars. I'm sure Sammy was thinking the same thing a few times.

I am physically home. I too left something behind in Boulder City and words can’t explain it.

I took my first RT.com shirt and buried it out at an overlook on the road around the lake. It is behind an overlook that catches the morning sun. Gleno said it was his favorite place at the lake so I left a piece of us there to hang out with him.

It was really great to meet some new folks and hug the old.

Roydogg and I crossed the Hoover dam at 8:00am (what traffic grin.gif) and headed towards Kingman AZ. Hung a right and stopped in Laughlin for gas. Back way out of Laughlin to Goff Road, through Amboy and 29 Palms and home. Home at 3:30pm.

Laney and I made it to Orange County about 2:15. I left there about 3:30 and made it to home in Camarillo about 5:00.

As I stood outside of the chapel signing the guest register yesterday, the man holding it commented that he'd never seen so many people. A little later, as Laney and I were in line to speak with Terri, one of the ushers said there were more people outside then inside the building.

Diversity is the only word that comes to mind to describe the people there but it doesn't convey the emotions I saw. There was a young man in riding leathers with his wife and baby who looked crestfallen when an usher announced there was no more room in the chapel. Inside there were young Sin City riders waiting in line to see Terri, senior citizens talking about how much they'll miss Gleno, and every age group between sitting or standing where they could find space. As I stepped out the door after the service I spotted a bearded biker type with the word "President" above his vest pocket and a patch for "Iron Riders" on the back.

Had I missed yesterday's service I would never have known that one person could have such an influence on so many people. Having been there I now have a new measure of success.

Got home around 8 tonight. The weekend was awesome. Too much to process right now, but will post more later. We took some pictures for you all, so we'll try to get those posted soon. The group ride was outstanding. I've never been a part of something so cool in my life.

Heartsick and home.

Jamie and I got in at about 9:00 PM. It was tough to leave Boulder City and a part of us will be there forever I guess.

The feeling of seeing so many of us there and knowing that we were carrying the heartfelt wishes from those of you that couldn't come, was inexpressibly beautiful.

I made it home very early on Monday morning despite I-15 being closed because of a jack-knifed semi and slippery roads. Sure am glad I was in the car and not on the bike.

It is interesting how these painful life events actually draw people closer together and create stronger "family" bonds. It was good to see everyone in BC this weekend and I hope that these bonds which have veen greatly influenced by by Gleno's zest for life will continue to grow stronger within our BMWST family.

See you all in Torrey...

Appreciate that/really wanted to be there but couldn't. Hope to pass thru in april on the way to the left coast.

Funny story in a somber weekend!

After the services had concluded, I made my way back to Teri so that I could follow through on what I said I would do for you Marty.

I patiently waited to have a moment with Teri. I approached her and gave her a HUGE hug for you. After this, I held her hands and looked at her and told her that that hug and regards was from Marty Hill. Teri immediately started cracking up with laughter. Not just a giggle, but a full blown laugh.

At first, I was taken aback. Then, she stated, "I can't tell you how many people have come up to me and told me that Marty Hill sends his regards."

She expressed how awesome it was that so many people were there, who weren't physically there!!

This, I assure you, goes to ALL the BMWST family. You were ALL there this weekend as we paid homage to a man, a friend, a father, grandfather, and husband.

You may not have been physically in attendance, but you WERE there!! wave.gif

Thanks Phil,

Guess I asked everyone I spoke with to give Terri a hug for me. Probably overdid it but I'm glad it made her laugh.

Thanks Phil, Through the people here, I HAVE felt there. And that means alot to people who really needed to be there and couldn't be.

Just a little story... I awoke saturday morning and going into town i noticed that the Flags were at half mast around the city offices, and my first thought was Glenno touched ALOT of people.

Glennoville in May is gonna be large thumbsup.gif
