Beautiful Colorado

I love everything about Colorado except getting there. Three and a half days on the slab is a small price to pay to ride in such a beautiful place. The first time the camera came out was at the St. Louis arch, the gateway to the West. Its over 600 ft. tall and there is an elevator that goes all the way to the top, that is 60 stories to you and me.

If your ever passing through Kansas City MO and you like BBQ, Authur Bryants is the place to stop.

We stopped to see if we could help at this accident scene in of all places Kansas (Long Strait Kansas).

The first order of business in Colorado was to ride Pikes Peak. The lack of oxygen on the summit will make you silly. At least us flat landers.

On the decent we ran into some crazy weather, hail, thunder and lightning then the downpour.

The next day we spent a few hours at the Royal Gorge toll bridge just west of Canon City on Hwy 50. If your in the area this place is worth a look. For a small fee you can feel what its like to fly without wings.

You can ride a tram to the bottom of the Gorge if you like, and look up.

We left the Gorge and spent the night in Gunnison. In the morning we took 149 South. These are a few pictures we took on the way to Creede.

As we entered Creede the smell of BBQ wafts across the road from a small road side stand. It wouldn't be right to just ride by now, would it?

100_4009.jpg

One of the interesting things about Creede is there Fire Dept. is in a cave.

Bachelor loop is also in Creede, it is about thirteen miles of dirt road that runs through an old mining area.

After leaving Creede we went West on 160 to Durango then North on 550 (The Million Dollar Highway).

We ended the day in OURAY we wanted to take a dip in the Natural Hot Springs but, they were closed for cleaning. It turns out the hot water is natural but, the pools are manmade, a small disppointment.

The next day we took Rt 62 out of Ridgway

Then Rt 145 to 141 up to Gateway CO.

In Gateway we stopped at the Gateway Co Auto Museum for lunch and fuel. I spotted the new GS lite.

Gateway would be the turn around point for this ride. We did ride Independence pass Rt 82 on our way East.

We spent two days traveling East to Memphis. Beal St was a fun place to spend the night. More ribs for dinner at Charles Vergos, I think I see a pattern developing. Ribs in Kansas City, Colorado and now Memphis.

There were two more days on the slab to get home, nothing remarkable about it. The camera stayed packed away. We traveled just under 6,000 miles in eleven days. Not iron butt material but it did qualify for the Clark Griswold vacation award. grin.gif

Glad you enjoyed Colorado. I think you must have picked a GREAT time of year to go and you snapped some nice photos as evidence.

P.S. Today, I enjoy our 6th weekend in a row of snow showers. I'd be happy if it just didn't snow on the weekends!

What a great trip!! That is the same ride I would love to do if I can get a few days off in the summer. It may have to wait for couple of years because this summer looks tied up already.

I'm greeeeeen with envy!

Great pictures. When did you take the trip? I thought I would be smart and save a picture to disk and then look at its properties and get the date taken. It shows January 2, 2003. Have you set the date in your camera?

Now that you know the way west you should try southern Utah and a Torrey event. Great ride and you get to meet the nicest folks on a BMW thumbsup.gif

Thanks for sharing your Colorado trip.
