Whip
20mph right turn...gravel on the outside of the turn....I got pinned under the bike....broke my leg (fractured femur)....the Doc said my slightly sprained ankle will take longer to heal than my leg. I was fully gear up. My boot was tore up. My knee took a good shot, but the knee pads absorbed the impact very nicely. My jacket shoulder showed signs of impact, but no soreness. The accident itself happen so fast it will be hard to analyze. I think I was too wide into the turn and once I was passed the turn in for the right turn I had no way of getting through the turn with out running through some heavy gravel. The gravel was in the shade and I had my dark mask on. I never saw or felt the gravel, just started to turn a little and then wammmm!!! I felt my right leg get hung up under the bike and then I ground to a stop. I think Greg took some pix of the area and I could be totally wrong in my analysis. Limecreek also took some good pix as they put me in the meat wagon. I'm fine...Louise is gonna take good care of me. Besides I need to get to work on my company website. this will be a perfect time. Ya'll have a Happy New Year.... Whip Link to comment

AviP
20mph right turn...gravel on the outside of the turn.... BTDT on my ZX11. Accelerated hard into the turn from the stop light and found gravel all over (from Boston's big dig). About 50 feet later, amidst lots of skidding and counter-steering, I finally dropped the bike at <5mph. No damage other than ego and a torn pant. Glad you are ok. Link to comment
Firefight911
First it's the Governator who breaks his leg. Now it's the Ambassador!!!!!! Glad you're posting this!!!!!!!! Larry, if you need something, leet us know!! I could come out and take care of . . . . . . . your bike!!! I don't want it to get lonely while she waits for you to heal!!! Sooo sorry to hear about this!!! Now, you're gonna have to drive to DV. Trust me, you get a pass from being made fun of for it!!!! You have a queen like mine, so I know you will be fine in no time!!!! Link to comment

GelStra
Yeah, if Phil had been there with a camera, think of the internet humiliation! Aw, maaaaaan! That completely sucks. Never mind the the "coulda been worse, glad you were wearing boots" bla-bla. That just sucks. What's Whipette gonna do for fun? Which bike? Link to comment

Huzband
Let me get this straight. You can (alledgedly) pass two up, on the outside, at 130. But you can't negotiate a 20mph right turn? I don't get it. Glad it wasn't worse. Really, I am. Remember, motivation quickens the healing. You're about to have a rally of people on your doorstep clamoring to "take care" of your bikes. Me included. I call dibs on the GSA. Link to comment
hindsight
That sucks. Glad you are okay and in good spirits. Not to be too inconsiderate, but which bike were you on? Heal well. Link to comment
Firefight911
I call dibs on the GSA. Too bad, soooooo sad. My post at 12:42 clearly beats your post of 12:55. Slow poke!!! GSA is already spoken for. Whip can I get you a pillow, soda, Fat Tire. How about some Oban good buddy!!!!!?????? Link to comment
philbytx
Once again, Ambassador Whip exaggerates ....as I do think that he's trying to compete with the Harley riding governor Actually, he got the "F" word wrong....he fractured his Fibula not his Femur (which is what the Governator fractured). Fractured femur's are BAD No doubt Greg will be posting MANY pictures upon his return later this afternoon. After we had lunch, he and Steve went to Blanco for pie....and I went home to finish my "honey-do" list. Whip's FJR is fine and resting quietly in my garage. I couldn't believe the miniscule amount of damage to his bike. Looks like a just a mildly scratched side bag...and the frame sliders REALLY worked well . Whip lucked out when a couple of cute female EMT's showed upand I believe he thought his luck had changed when they started ripping off his clothing....however, he showed obvious disappointment when they stopped at his knee At the hospital when Greg, Steve and I showed up Larry was laying there like King Faroukh in his harem as we saw he had a cute little blonde nurse AND a pretty tasty looking female Doctor I am sure that Greg will post the story of HIS "post Whip trauma" event today as well This was an eventful day but I can honestly say that, all said and done, it truly was a great day to be living in Texas! Get well soon Larry Oh and don't worry, I'm trying to locate a pigtail on your FJR so I can hook up my spare Battery Tender You do have one on it don't you ??? Link to comment
Huzband
"Slow poke!!! GSA is already spoken for." Think again, squeeky. You didn't specify. Maybe if you get me a pillow & some Oban, I'll share. Boy Whip, can you believe the lengths some people will go to? What a suck-up. Link to comment

Although I must admit to being a bit disappointed. It too bad you didn't post your intentions of going to the hospital earlier. We could have set up a Richard-esque phone call system to keep you company on the way to the hospital. I'm glad you're OK. Link to comment

Paul Mihalka
Ah, fibula! Much better! About 30 years ago, which means I was about your age, a drunk run into me, pushed into my right leg wich pushed and broke the carburettor on my R90S and broke the fibula. I got a walking cast. It was my right leg so I had to teach my left foot to drive a automatic car. Three weeks later I was riding. So you'll be up and running in no time Link to comment

Bill_Walker
That's a bummer, dude! I hope you heal up fast and that Miz L takes good care of you. Looking on the bright side, if you think about all the hoonin' around you've done, going down at 20 mph, if you had to go down sometime, sure seems like the speed to choose! I wonder if it's an FJR thing? I've got a buddy with an FJR (he's computer illiterate, so not on the board), and he's broken his right leg twice; once on sand, and once thanks to a deer. He figures it's bad karma, and just got himself a K1200RS. Do what your doctors and your wife tell you, and heal quick, buddy! Link to comment
BeniciaRT_GT
Its amazing what some people do to get a little recognition around this site Larry, heal well & quickly. Damn Larry, I would have shared some of the fame with you...It was only 15 minutes and you could have had your turn next!!! I'm sorry to hear the bad luck, but now we have to ask: Did you "Bounce" or just slide around? I'm sure our eyewitnesses can fill us in, but you might be working your way into a club you don't want to join. Another say, oh 5 or 10 of these over the next year, and we will make you move to SoCal! I'll try to get back to give you some more healing "love" soon!!! Link to comment
Whip
Did you "Bounce" No, it's hard to bounce with the bike on top of ya. More like a grinding thud. Link to comment

Francois_Dumas
Darn, now I am too late to congratulate ya...... I mean with the fact you're still alive and such! Bummer, Larry !! And just the one thing I am still afraid of..... I think I'm gonna buy me a new outfit..... I know EXACTLY what the really good riding gear is to prevent this sort of silly little accidents !!! Heck, YOU might want one too....... I am sure I can order you one.... Seriously, I hope you heal fast and won't have too much pain ! Looking forward to your website... what will it be about !?? Warmest regards, Francois Link to comment
Tony_K
No, it's hard to bounce with the bike on top of ya. More like a grinding thud. I was just telling Lori (the wife) about this spill of yours and commenting on how low speed dumps are in some ways more hazardous than one with a bit more speed. Especially in the case of the larger bikes. As Larry's busted leg proves getting trapped under a mass of weight... something has got to give. Dumps with a bit more speed tend to separate rider and bike, usually going different directions. Some of us have more experience with this than others. So whip I take it you wont be at DVD?...... Bob Palin
Looking forward to your website... what will it be about !?? I wouldn't hold your breath, I set it up for him last April and it hasn't changed since... Oh yes, sorry to hear about the leg (and that's a lot of leg!) Link to comment
Couchrocket
I first read femur, and thought you were in way too good spirits for a femur break! Glad it was "only" fib! Heal well, and quickly! Good thougths coming your way from here. Link to comment
BeniciaRT_GT
So whip I take it you wont be at DVD?...... No, He's gonna drive there. That is much better anyway, because riding with or even around him is dangerous!!! I'm serious! you won't catch me doing that again with him... For at least 8 weeks Now get off this website and get to work on your own!!! And make sure to raise your entry level worker's pay while they pick up your slack!!! Link to comment
ShovelStrokeEd
Major suck fest. Glad it wasn't worse. You probably picked the best (if there is such a thing) bone to break. I won't even discuss 20 mph. I'm pretty sure you have been faster a time or two. Heal quickly and well my friend. Link to comment

azkaisr
First of all you should have been with us in the nice hail/snow we rode in today out here in AZ. Chris even cooked us a grand meal. Had you been in the right place all of this could have been avioded. Second, I know that Richard has gotten more attention then he maybe rightly deserved, but going out and taking a dive for the sympathy post is no way to make the Ride Tales that last section. Trust me after talking to Philly today about it I have the inside scoop! Lastly, I hope you get better ASAP you hoon so we see ya in Death Valley. I KNOW Southwest flies to Vegas and if need be, I will have my Chrysler 300 waiting for you at the airport. Therefore, no excuse will be accepted for skipping out. I just hope this doesn't inspire Phil to go Para sailing naked to try and outdo you and Richard now! Take care amigo! Kaisr Link to comment
