Here's a short 'Tale of his departure for your reading pleasure!

So wonder of wonders . . . Richard got off to a bit of a late start today. Here I am waiting to escort him down to the beach:

I had forgotten about his "casual" relationship with "real time".

I thought he was just taking time putting his socks on so as not to injure himself in his haste, but no. Even Maggie was dumbfounded! dopeslap.gif

Finally we made it down to the Pacific Ocean . . . Which was NOT looking very PACIFIC this morning!! eek.gif

We stared in awe for a few minutes watching the huge waves slam the underside of a pier that is normally WAY out of the water. Another guy had heard that the huge storm surf was going off this morning and had stopped by on his bike on his way to work to check it out! cool.gif

The huge star pine was covered with beach balls to look like ornaments--really cool looking! thumbsup.gif

The rest of the pics I took with Richard's camera including him getting his sand and water so you'll have to wait until he gets back to see those. He looked a bit apprehensive when I left him at around 07:00 PST to rush on to work (thank god for lane-splitting or I would've been very late! dopeslap.gif ).

 

I guess he got a cuppa and got going between 07:30 and 08:00 PST. BTW, it was 46*F when we left the house this morning for the beach. I hope the sun had been up long enough to take the chill off the mountain passes to the east by the time he got there! eek.gif

Just got off the phone with him (finally). He's fine, alert and talking clearly. Slept for four hours as planned. He was getting gas somewhere West of San Antonio. Says his phone hasn't been cooperating this morning.

I'm always amazed how well the phone works and sounds at speed, though i could have sworn i heard a dog barking in the background, it was wonderful to say good morning and wish him well.

Well I got him on the phone finally, I felt like a stalker last night as Phil (1bmwfan) kept telling me, "try again" and no answer. He said he is between San Antonio and Houston. All is well although it is a little warm. Keep checking in, he loves it.

He's had a lot of company this morning. I talked to him about 8:45 a.m. (PST) and he's doin great. Slept well with Whip's dogs and may try to ride straight on through. He says he not tired of talking yet!!

13:07 eastern. Just spoke to Richard, he's doing great. Looks like he'll roll in around 2-2:30 am. Said he may try to make it w/o an extended stop. I'm going to call again this evening, & may pick him up as he approaches Jax, & ride with him to the beach. The exits to the beach are very confusing if you haven't been here before. At he sure won't need that for the end of his ride.

Also offered him B&B. And a shower! thumbsup.gif

It's perfect today. Overcast, temps in lo 70's. Lo tonight looks to be around 55-60, slight chance of a sprinkle, so he should be very comfortable. He timed this one just right, as the December weather can run the gamut, from 80's w/storms, to 20's at night & windy 40's during the day.

Tried to call him with no answer....if anyone gets him, I'll be on duty this evening here in Tallahassee....working of all things, "Speed Enforcement!" lmao.gif I'll try to read the board at work, on break time of course, and may be able to intercept him....and make his trip through a little easier! thumbsup.gif

Just harrassed our pilot during a gas stop at 11:45 PST. Sounds good, feels good. Butt not an issue, knees in check. Feels he's ahead by enough hours to actually seek out that waffle house.

My turn, I had to call to find out how he’s doing (I’m kinda considering this run when the days get longer). He doing well, sounds alert, smells like dogs!? His humors up, and he says “nothing abnormal to report almost boring”, (careful Rich, still 800 mile to go). There’s something about possum teeth being stuck in his boot? He said he would explain later. Sounds like he’s got it made though… (13:36 pst)

Just spoke with Richard (240 MST) and he just finished lunch in Beaumont, Texas. He's doing fine and seems 'pumped' to get moving again. Most of the scenery has been flat...flat...flat. I let him know there's lots of folks tracking him and he says his cell phone is constantly ringing.

 

I also warned him to be careful with that first beer because it's gonna kick his ass. And just like Richard, he said, that's OK, it'll be a cheap drunk!

 

Go Richard.

Just spoke to him as well. He did mention something about cleaning out the liquor cabinet in San Antonio. He is in good spirits and is making grand time.

Huzband and I are going to ride out and meet him to lead him to the beach.

 

There's ellen's grill in Jax beach that does a fine breakfast. give me a call if you want to join us.

Just got off the phone with Richard. He's 10 miles into Louisiana now. He hit a temporary snag when traffic came to a standstill. His California habits kicked in and in no time he was through the standing vehicles to where the road is narrowed down to one lane (10' width travel restriction in place). Still moving along...

1755 I talked to Richard, he's near Lafayette, LA and doing well but was stopped in traffic behind a bad accident. He's got lots of time and is still hoping to be here early in the AM.

OK, I just talked to Richard as well... Man, with all these calls, who needs XM? smile.gif

 

He was mildly annoyed at the traffic from the accident, but now he's doing... um, well, whatever the speed limit is. lmao.gif

 

He also mentioned that Whip's dogs will be fine. They're just hung over. He didn't want to be in too good of spirits, so the dogs got most of the booze.

 

Since he got backed up by the accident (other side of the road luckily) he's still looking like he's fine on time, but he might not make Talahassee by midnight. But it'll be close.

 

I'm sure this thread was the real reason the board went down last night. The server just couldn't handle the hits. smile.gif
