Great!!

Armando or Woodie... do you know yet if we will have someone with experience doing/leading Brake bleeds? Seems like about half of us want to learn/do that...

Looking forward to a great week end... and SAMSAR I think we might need to worry more about it snowing rather than raining lmao.gif

I think HenryJ7 may be able to help us out here.... Can you say Guru?... Sure, I knew you could. thumbsup.gif

By the by... Any "Tank Off" projects get first-dibs on the garage bays. I figure we can fit up to six bikes in the bays and then we have three+ "party-tent" bays for the driveway. There is at least enough room for 17-20 bikes to be worked on at the same time.

Adding to the learning list... I would be also be interested in understanding how to tune my suspension and the nuances involved. I've been doing some reading on the topic but knowing the bike is setup properly to begin with would be be a big help. Not that I won't be busy enough with the 6K. eek.gif

Wow! I am away from a computer for a little while and a whole Tech Daze planning gets started! Count me in! I want to do another valve adjust, TB sync (got a TwinMax for my birthday), and change all the oils. Oct. 28 (Saturday) is good for me. I will be sure to take all the Tupperware off my bike to save time...Oops! I just remembered, the "R" doesn't have any Tupperware! (heh, heh)!

See you in a month or so! Thanks for offering your beautiful house and garage for the gathering once again, Paul.

What's the planned start time for this shindig?

Also, if anyone's riding down from MA (metro west, Worcester County) and doesn't mind being seen with an R-RS, let me know and we can ride down together.

BTW, we do have a full tire changing station available if needed & I recall that Samsar (Paul) was willing to take delivery of shipments of bulky parts, etc. so no one has to ride over with a tire around their neck. The station includes the tire changing equipment as well as a Parnes wheel balancer. If anyone wants to do this, wave a hand and I'll bring the gear over to Paul's.

R1100RT has the reservoir on the right handlebar still. No gas tank off, no seat off, :D

Because of the crash-bars, I'm usually the first to start working, and the last to leave a TechDaze. (Nothing to do with how much I talk while working! blush.gif )

I would like very much to attend. If all goes well I will have moved from my 89 Pacific Coast to an 07 R1200RT. I don't need any work work done but would love to help others and learn. I do have "Tupperware" experience! Please add my name to the list.

IF brake bleed would be the same on KRS as on those R's, sure would love to learn how to do that! Had dealer do brake related service thus far (I like to be able to stop if needed tongue.gif)

Have "tech day" penciled in, put me down as a possibility if there's still room - thanks Paul.

Thanks for hosting Paul!

Wow! cool.gif OK. I'm putting out an APB for the Tech Day Gnome and Manual. I want to make sure we get this event properly recorded. Any ideas who has them???

Also, for the locals... I could use a couple additional party tents and a couple more portable propane heaters to help fight any chill in the air. PM me if you have anything that might work and I will arrange to pick up before the 28th.

Remember, you are welcome to have any parts shipped to the house if you don't want to carry them on the bike. Woodie, that goes for you too... No need to carry that front tire around your neck... eek.gif DiggerJim, we are going to need the tire changing station this time.

Samsar,

hats off to you. I know how busy you are and you still find time to check out the progress on the board. Looks like this event is growing. I will update the spreadsheet this weekend (assuming I don't join you on the Saddlesore).

I now have 2 party tents that can probably house 3 bikes. And I will be happy to pickup any other tents, tools, and/or supplies for the event that others will lend.

I will update the list of attendees and projects this weekend as well.

I have a repair manual on CD for the R1200 Hexhead. I will bring it. I do not have a laptop. Is there a computer handy if needed ? I also have changed my Final Drive oil on the R1200RT. I can show anyone who is interested in doing that . All they need is FD oil 75W90 {230 ml.} and that little o ring gasket for the drain plug.

Hi mos,

Thanks for reminding me. I will have my laptop in the garage and I have wireless internet access from there. Last time, we used it several times to ask questions on the board and do some quick research. We were also checking the rain on one of my favorite websites www.weatherunderground.com

I'll bring the following job-specific stuff:

- Valve adjustment and TBS treatises from the ADVRider web site (paper)

- Feeler gauges

- TwinMax

- R1150RS Shop Manual on CD-ROM

Not planning on doing a valve adjustment, but anyone who is can feel free to borrow what I've got.

I'm almost positive I can attend too! -- need to check with the "war department". I don't need any work done but can help with the normal maintenance stuff. I have the RT service manual in print as well as a CarbTune, feeler guages, or any other tools you need.

Paul or Armando,

Do you know yet if we will have access to a "Mini-Stan" or the like so that we can perform brake bleeds?

I am getting close to a rear tire or maybe both tire change . Is there going to be anyone with the equipment and know how to change tires?

Mike

Equipment anyway grin.gif

We'll have a complete outfit including a Harbor Freight stand, Wikco tire lever (the model for Mitch's Mojo bar), & Parnes wheel balancer as well as complete directions. You might want to have the tires shipped to Paul to save having to carry it on the back of the bike. I think he may need a tire change too so you probably won't be the the only one.

I'm really sorry to miss this as it sounds like it's turning into one heck of a PARTY!! clap.gif

You all have fun without me . . . it's okay . . . really . . . bncry.gif

I'm going to be doing some wrenching on my bike next Monday and I'll post about it if anyone wants to come by . . . but no one will come over. bncry.gif

And I'll be thinking of you guys out there in the NorthEast having fun . . . eating and drinking and laughing and learning and helping each other become more competent wrenchers and becoming "one" with your iron steeds . . . cool.gif

( **sigh** smirk.gif ) . . . I guess I'll have to take comfort in the fact that at least it's happening and I can't be everywhere! grin.gif (damn big country! tongue.gif )

Thanks, to SAMSAR and your able assistants!! I hope you guys have a great time, but I still want to see LOTS of pictures!!!! wave.gif

And where is that danged TechGnome Geek anyway??!! grin.gif

I will be bringing a Mitch's "Mojo bar" also. kenneticut and I have replaced his tires on my HF changer with tire irons (so we are somewhat experienced). The changer HAS to be screwed down to something solid like a cement floor. Mine is mounted to big ass wooden pallet that there is no way I could bring it on my bike.

Cool. I'm interested in the difference between it and the original Wikco bar.

I've got mine bolting to a piece of 3/4" plywood. It all comes apart to go in the shed when I'm not using it. I'll be bringing it over to Paul's earlier so it's ready for the tire demons.

Hi Jim and Henry,

Do you think we should rig up something in the garage floor that we could slide the changer/plywood into to make it even more secure?

I am in India this week but will be back at 0 Dark 30 Friday morning. I'm not planning on going into the office that day and could figure something out if you want to drop it off say Thursday. I will make it ummm "non-permanent". Unless of course you want to leave it at the house. wink.gif I can PM you the code to the garage if Suzanne isn't there.

And again... YES to anyone that wants to have stuff delivered to the house... like tires. The local guys can just drop stuff off too anytime.

The traffic report here in India is "Chaos". Not sure I'd be brave enough to combat this traffic on either a bike or a cage. Our driver/security escort summed it up by saying you need 3 things when driving in India: "Good Brakes, Good Horn, and Good Luck."

See ya later,

Do you think that's necessary? The plywood base is big enough to be standing on when it's bolted on. That puts a lot of weight keeping it down. I saw it as a recommended technique from a few folks here.

You could always set some anchors flush in the garage floor so you can bolt it down for use, but then unbolt it for return and/or storage. I'm pretty sure Hilti or one of the other brands sell cement anchors that are designed to receive a machine threaded bolt. Just make sure you have the proper sized masonry bit (and a roto-hammer would be nice) and it should only take a few minutes to install it. With the bolts removed and the anchors set flush with the floor (or below) they won't be a trip hazard, but if you're going to go months between uses, you might look into something you could use as a plug so that the anchors don't get filled with dirt and debris.

Makes sense... Let's give it shot and see how it works using our own body weight.

Jamie's solution has potential too... maybe for next time.

T-10 Days. 26 participants (a few questionable). I will post and updated list of participants and projects next week. It was also suggested that you label the small tools you are planning on bringing to work on your bike. This will make wrap up a bit eaier.

What can I bring, how can I help, how do I get there? I am probably going to install an XM on the bike that day and I have everything I need to do it but, I can certainly bring some tools that others may need as well as the R bike Clymer and the R1150RT manual which I have on CD. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone there as well... Steve

I think you make #27! We will get a final count on Wed or Thu of next week.

Manuals would be good. We will have atleast one laptop so the CD would work out great. there are quite a few people doing valves so extra feeler gauges would probably come in handy as well.

We are still looking for one or two propane heaters, the kind you attach to a 20lb. tank. If anyone can get a hold of one or two, that would be helpful.

Directions from Springfield:

Take Mass Pike East to I-91 South in Springfield

From 91, Take Exit 40 to Route 20

Continue West past Route 187

Then look for Metacomet Rd. and Turn Right

I am also looking forward to meeting all. I am thnking that we ought to plan a spring ride while as well. We can talk on tech day.
