Concerned about my front Anakee

I just noticed something on the original Anakee on the front of my R1200GS. There are some oval raised spots all along the tread. It has 17K on it, getting close to the wear bar anyway, so I'm ordering a new tire. I just wondered what these are. I'll be embarassed if they're normal, but not as embarassed as I would be crashing if they're not supposed to be there.

Maybe I could have done a little more research. I found a thread on ADVRIder discussing this. Others posted (sharp)photos of their front Anakee with the exact same thing when they were well worn, and near the end of their life. Maybe it's a characteristic of the tire. Time for new ones anyway.

Well as you are discovering, it seems to be pretty normal of this tyre. My first one did it too. Call it an automatic wear indicator I guess! Bumps popping up = time to buy a new tyre!

Well, at least it's still round. Pretty much. smile.gif I'll take it easy on it until the new tires get put on. I ordered a set of Pilot Roads. Thought I'd try them instead of the dual sports, since I don't have any plans to go off road anyway. Not that I was unhappy with the Anakees. Thanks for the replys.

I guess you know by now, they all do that.

Someone explained to me it was because of the agressive tread pattern. It starts with cupping, and ends with knots on the tire.

Check your next set with a few thousand miles. You may not be able to see the cupping, but if you run your hand over the tire, you will feel the leading edge of the tread has definitely worn more than the trailing edge.
