flat_twin Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Half a quart in 900 miles is a lot but I have to ask how you check your oil level. It's easy to get a bad reading which indicates the need to add more oil. If you haven't heard or read this before here's how to check the oil in a modern BMW boxer.... It's best to check the oil level after a ride that allowed the engine to reach normal operation temperature. Park the bike on the sidestand for 10 minutes, then put the bike on the centerstand, wait a few more minutes before checking the oil level in the sightglass. Having said that, my 99RT at 60k miles still uses oil. Usually a half quart in 5000 miles. Link to comment
