David
Been thinking about this for a bit, and it seems like a cool tradition to have an annual gathering in the Texas Hill Country. Maybe 20, 30, 50, 70 people or whoever wants to. March in Kerrville (Yeeha's suggestion)? Arriving Friday night with dinner, riding Saturday, leaving Sunday? I don't have any idea. But if you Texas riders are interested, I'd sure like to go. Anybody want to organize it? Link to comment
russell_bynum
Sounds like fun to me. I can be in Antler Country in a day's ride. Let's ride! Link to comment
Limecreek
It sure would be fun, and unless there is someone else that wants to step up, I'd be glad to put it together. March can be pretty nice weather wise, but we ought to plan the ride for the later half of the month just in case. It's usually warm and dry by then. Are there any other Texans interested in pulling a spring ride together? I'd be happy to take point or sweep. Let's do it! Link to comment
ToxicAgain
Count me in! I've been meaning to stop by Luckenbach and get another hat anyway. Link to comment

leikam
David, did you just invite yourself to an annual rally that wasn't yet planned? Since you've already opened the door, I could probably show up for bit. Link to comment
R_D
Count this Okie in. It should be done quarterly though. Annual is such a long time. Link to comment
David
Are there any other Texans interested in pulling a spring ride together? I'd be happy to take point or sweep. Well, Greg, get us started then! Sounds like there's enough interest. Let's get a date and meeting place, and then we can iron out the details. Personally, I'm free every weekend in March. Limecreek
Steve McKinley and I are having breakfast in Blanco tomorrow, so he'll be a good one to bounce a couple of ideas around with. Let me finish off the arrangements for our Tech Daze and then I'll turn my full attention to the spring ride. I will zero in on a date and a rally point by Sunday, however and the rest can follow later this fall. We might want to consider one of the smaller burgs like Leaky as our rendezvous point. There are some great cabins situated along the Frio River and camping close by for those that prefer to pitch a tent. Link to comment
RichEdwards
IN! So what's the date? Link to comment
Limecreek
Here’s an answer to your question: The 2004 Texas Hill Country Ride will be held on March 26, 27, and 28 with a Friday evening arrival (26th), and a departure home sometime on Sunday (28th). Mark it down on your calendars and more details will follow. Kerrville, Texas will be home base, and if you'd like to get a jump on things and book a room now you can use this link. http://www.guide-to-hotel.com/texas/kerrville/ I'll provide enough planning to keep it organized, but the goal will be to keep it loose and fun, and all about riding and eating....and riding. AdventurePoser
Is there any good BBQ around the area? I'f I'm gonna entice Jamie, Jim, and Weasel to ride here with me, I gotta have the 4-1-1 on the BBQ... Steve Link to comment
Jake
Just point me to the pie, and McKinley better put some good gas in that GS, cuz the Grape Ape is gonna eat. Link to comment
Marty Hill
Gregory, Why not name a hotel as HQ rather than us being all over. Oh yeah, IN. Link to comment
Limecreek
Hi Marty, You're right, and I will name a Hotel HQ, but it's a small town and most of the hotel managers will not return my call regarding large group discounts until Monday. I am leaning towards the Comfort Inn, but hang tight and the ride HQ and several other details about the ride will come out later this week as I collect some more info. As for the BBQ question....uh, this is Texas, home of the worlds finest BBQ. Link to comment

As for the BBQ question....uh, this is Texas, home of the worlds finest BBQ. I stayed at the Comfort Inn on Labor day weekend. Nice budget hotel with a nice parking lot. Motel 6 and Budget Inn are just down the street for overflow should we fill up all of their 55 rooms. The Best Western is also nice but not as new. Link to comment
swmckinley
Jaker my boy...... just you bring that that Florida RT on on over here and we will feed it some BBQ ,(did someone ask if'n there is BBQ the great in state of TEXAS? must've been talk ing on his cell phone while he was posting or sumpin!!) and we will show that flatlander some curves (seen any of those lately?) Remember the Enough Already Tour? Hell boy we invented Ride-Eat-Ride-Eat. Yawl come on over for some of that good ole Texas Hospitality. I gotta a little sumpin for that Grape Ape too..... Que Fea's got a little sister in the garage and she is fluent in Italian. Link to comment
philbytx
Talk about coincidental...we are in the process of buying a second home in Kerrville ! Its a nice little town with some great riding around there (take 16 south out of town then 335/336 and 337 are great!). Don't forget to visit the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum near Lost Maples Park. Allan Johncock (an Aussie!) vintage races a Matchless G50 and has a great collection of vintage Nortons including an immaculate Inter and a Manx 350! Check out his Vincents...he is open on the weekends but will open during the week if you give him a call...very nice chap with some incredible bikes and great stories! Check it out... Lone Star MC Museum Oh, and don't forget to visit StonehengeII while you are down there, makes for an interesting picture! The weather should be beautiful at that time..... I don't know at this time if our schedule will permit a trip down there (its 1300 miles from Wheaton!) but would love to join up with you if we could. Link to comment

Haven't been in that area, as most of my travel has been to the west and northwest of Austin (Burnett, etc) You are in for a treat. Just great roads and interesting scenery. Other than isolated examples, west of the Smokeys--until you get to the great west--the best riding around includes the Ozarks, the Texas Hill Country, and the Black Hills, in that order. Of course N and E of the Smokies you'll find all kinds of good stuff. It's fun to see how quickly this has come together, eh? I can't wait! Link to comment

Steve, I need a written commitment from you on which bike you are bringing. If you lead on the GSA, I'll be okay on the RT. But if you are going to whip out the Italian iron, I may need to reconsider. As I recall, you scraped a peg on the Adventure when we were chasing each other, and that's hard to do. So you do all the thinkin' you want, but then fess up on which bike you are bringing and then stick with it like a man. Link to comment

Limecreek
The central gathering point for the 2004 Hill Country Ride will be the Hampton Inn, in Kerrville, Texas. There is a block of rooms reserved under the name of Hill Country Ride at a flat $80 rate. Check-in is 3/26 and check-out is 3/28. Call 830-257-0600 for reservations. March and April are very busy in the Hill Country. A lot of folks know about our spring wildflowers and they flock to Kerrville from far and wide, so you’d better book your room now or you may go without. Seriously, things will book-up quickly so get your reservations in early. Several other lodging accommodations in Kerrville are available if the Hampton Inn isn’t your first choice. I've called several Hotel Managers and here’s what I found out: Comfort Inn -very nice Hotel $90-95/night Days Inn -wouldn’t call back $?? Econolodge -older, a little rough $65-80/night Best Western -booked w/convention $80-90/night Holiday Express -very nice Hotel $99-119/night Hampton Inn -very nice Hotel $80/night Here's a better link for lodging alternatives in Kerrville: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=htwv&stat=1&srby=2&kart=0&locn=Kerrville&ploc=Kerrville&loid=&&zz=1066175214859& A web page for the ride will go up in November.
