I'll try to get on it tomorrow--bear with me. I'll have to go back and add up how many we're going to be so if you've been on the fence be sure to chime in here or you might be reconning at the motel down the street! eek.gifgrin.gif
Guess I should mention (again) that I'm fence sitting for another day or two, but I plan on being IN for this. But, I'll probably jump ship faster than you can say "Colorado Torrey" if there's a big snow storm between here and there around then. lmao.gif

The best DVD's in the past ..........have been in D.V. at the Ranch. Why not just book it there again and be done with it.

If you guys can't afford a room, camp outside by the golf course. lmao.gif

Well if you haven't been keeping up with the evolution of this event, the key words here are "in the past". The reason the airheads group changed their dates originally were for overcrowding and difficulty getting the group together. The prices were not just expensive but exorbitant ($140.00 a night for a dumpy old circa 1950's preserved motel room) and they filled up so far in advance it made planning a real nightmare. Just look at how much trouble we're having getting a confirmed attendance for a group half that size.

The first BMWST.com DVD Ride at the Exchange Club in Beatty was PERFECT! The whole group could fit together in one hotel, we filled the place, we paid $35.00 for hotel rooms with broadband internet and a restaurant and bar (and casino) on the premises. The owners even put on a very nice reception for us. We were almost the only ones in town and it was about 45 miles to Furnace Creek via Daylight Pass, which was an awesome start to anyone's day.

We decided to keep the MLK weekend date because of the extra vacation day afforded a few folks and keep it out of the Valley for those who did not wish to camp and yet not have to spend four times as much for a nice room and be near their friends. Ringle buying out the Exchange Club and shutting it down was an unforseen setback. We've been trying to re-group and do our best to keep the awesome ride together. There may yet be hope for Beatty for next year's ride (Death Valley Inn in 2008?), but in ANY case the ride is still on and well worth the travel.

Besides, it gives us a chance to have ANOTHER recon ride for DVD 2008! clap.gif

I'm also on the fence but I think there's a good chance that I'll be in if the weather cooperates, not sure I want to trailer again after all the *&^% you guys gave me in January.

The question is, how many rooms do we need? In other words, who is interested in sharing a room?

To give you a sense of what we're looking at, if we reserve a block of 6 rooms at the Saddle West in Pahrump, Fri and Sat nights will be 59.50 for a standard 2 Queen bed, non-smoking room. Sunday night would be 42.50. I'm waiting for a call back to get a rate for 8 - 10 rooms.

At the Longstreet, where we've stayed before, anything below 10 rooms is $79 for a standard room. If we guarantee 10 rooms the rate goes to $65

There's a beginning. So, how many rooms do we need?

OK, how about I change my status then?

I'm IN (solo for those of you to whom that means something frown.gif) for Fri and Sat (10-11) night unless something bad happens (aka weather or work, and weather seems to be the more likely problem) leaving Vegas Fri morning.

I wouldn't be vehemently opposed to sharing a room if there was someone that really needed to/wanted to. Otherwise, put me down for one those two nights.

Saddle West's Price doesn't change whether we book 6 rooms or 10.

Jamie can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he's thinking of the first night at the Longstreet and the next night/nights in Pahrump.

Wow! Maybe we should just consider the January trip to be rescheduled to November and call it a done deal! wink.gif

I'm in. Solo preferred but will share if necessary. I snore. You've been warned.

I am in negotiations right now about having a pillion come along. If I end up going solo, then I may be willing to share a room. Will know more in a week.

CraigC. Odds are I am going to be able to roll out of Phoenix Friday. Not sure when, but let me know if you want to ride up together.

Oops, I was reminded by Judith we have friends arriving from Detroit that weekend.

Guess we need to book them an extra room dopeslap.gif

Yeah, if they're not riding out from Detroit, maybe we can scare up an extra bike! thumbsup.gif

Update, I'm thinking of staying at the Saddle West in Pahrump, NV.

We can recon the Longstreet, Beatty and any other options from there and we don't have to break camp. The rates are better than the Longstreet and there are more amenities than the LS and I'm game on giving it serious consideration for the ride next January. It is a bit further away from DV, but there is a very pretty "backroad" that goes between Pahrump right to Death Valley Junction (that Google and Garmin do NOT route by), that also cuts off 20 miles or so and avoids all the traffic. The Red Sky BBQ in Pahrump was AWESOME and there are lots of options at the Saddle West as well.

Check it out at: www.saddlewest.com , but we may be able to get a bit better deal on a group of rooms so you might want to hold off until we get the rates nailed down and give you the instructions on how to book.

SO . . . if there are no howling objections let's go there! thumbsup.gif

Hey Phil and Carole, Team Schnauzer, Killer--and anyone else on the fence about the weather or trailering!!!!!! They have a huge RV area with double wide pull-through's will full amenities (including internet). So check it out and come and join us for the cameraderie at least!! clap.gif

Dinkee, I still owe you that pillion ride! grin.gif

I have had one good conversation so far with the hotel folks and we are going to reach a deal on Monday. Wanda, the head of group sales, needed to to talk to her manager, and I need some information from the hoons. How many rooms would we be willing to take for the MLK ride?

I sort of tossed out the number at 20-25 but need to confirm with you guys if it is that big or am I low balling?

Thanks

Tom, are you talking about the Pre-Run or the MLK Weekend ride in January? (You're still getting us some rooms for November too, right? wink.gif )

I brought up the original Planning Thread here , so you can get a count. I think we've got some time yet for people to clear their schedule for January, but previously we've been around 40-60 people for the main ride and about a dozen for the Pre-Run, IIRC.

Thanks for all your help on this and thanks also to the rest who offered! clap.gif

(I may have more work for some of you later! wink.gif )

I am using the January ride as leverage to get us a better deal in November. Don't worry, you have to remember that I work for a major Fortune 100 company, that has taught me well on how to be short sighted. wave.gif

I'd like to be IN, if not too late.

Single preferred...double-up ok if room allotment requires.

Sounds like I'll have to cancel my Ranch room res. made last Jan grin.gif

Just got back from 4 days of off roading (missed all the updates) and it looks like I can be IN

for the pre run.

I have no problem sharing a room with a like minded soul.
