MI2Wheels
This morning I noticed my hi-beam is out. I hit the autoparts store during lunch and found the right replacement, but before I tear into this, I was reading the manual and they say to disconnect and insulate the ground from the battery. I assume is the small, "3rd" wire connected to the battery posts? By insulate do they mean make sure it doesn't touch anything else while it's disconnected? It seems pretty straight forward, I had the headlight apart looking at it (and it didn't fall apart going down the road after lunch), but I don't want electrical problems. Link to comment
David Sharpe
I think the directions mean to disconnect your negative battery lead and make sure it doesn't touch anything. Link to comment
99Roadster
I would not worry about it. I've replaced the headlamp without disconnecting the battery with no issues. Just don't turn the bike on while it's apart. And do not touch the lamp with your bare hands - usual lamp replacement precautions apply. Oh, and that connector can be pretty tight. Link to comment
Shawnee Bill
If you will notice, virtually everything one of those manuals tell you to do the first step is disconnect the battery. It is not a bad idea but not really necessary for most things, more of a disclaimer for the manual writers if something blows up. Link to comment
