Me So Horny,

Illini

Seems I can only get about 2 bursts out of the horn then it shuts down. Turn the bike off then back on and it works fine for a coupla more blasts then nothing till I turn off/on again. Does the CANBUS control the horn too? dopeslap.gif

Please proceed to the nearest highway out of town and begin to blast your horn multiple times. Does yours fire each time?

There've been at least two comprehensive discussions on the subject in the past year. Evidently some RT's have the problem and others don't, my '05 does. Basically an overloaded circuit and the CANBUS shuts it off. I haven't had it in yet to see if there's a solution though.

Use the search function on this forum and you find numerous posts on this, including mine on how I resolved this issue on my RT.

A factory horn that is pulling a current level out of spec. seems to be the most common reason. A quick warranty replacement of the horn itself should fix you right up!

Aftermarket horns are a bit trickier. I've had to do some loading experimentation across the relay for those to hit the proper current drain so the ZFE module doesn't shut down the horn port because of to little of current drain.

What did you come up with?

I had the issue with my '05 from new.. They replaced the horns and since then, no issue.. It appears teh horns casued an overload with teh CanBus and the Canus shuts the circuit down..

I discovered I had the same problem on my '06 RT when I was at the MOA rally in Vermont. My bike has the wimpy single horn too, not the dual horns like on the '05s. I haven't done anything about it yet with the dealer.

Usually somewhere between a 5 to 15 ohm resistor across the original horn leads, i.e. in parrallel with the new horn's relay seeems to get the current level close enough to fool the ZFE module into thinking a standard horn is still there.

Tried mine out yesterday and I felt kind of stupid wailing away on that horn for something like 10 seconds (which seems VERY long when you're riding) and it continued to work just fine.

Try short 2-3 second bursts and see if your horn will fire 6 times??? If I hold the horn button down it will blair for hours on end but I'll not get a second blast until I turn it off/on

I have tried every which way to get mine to fail, and it never has. thumbsup.gif

Just lucky I guess.

I'll give it a try tomorrow morning on the ride to breakfast.
