rondob4
I'm adding FF50s to my '99 RT, but don't feel comfortable with the pictogram instructions drawn up by Hella. Anyone have some wiring suggestions/recommendations they are willing to share? Thanks, Mark Link to comment
beemer2000
Mark I installed a set of FF50 on my R1100R and had no problems using the supplied wiring diragams. I will be glad to assist you if I can? Link to comment
Ken H.
How are you planning on using them? Do you want them to come on all the time? Only with the high beam? Go on/off with the ignition switch? Operate completely independently? Given some more details of what you want to do, we can put together better recommendations. Link to comment
Mike O
I'm adding FF50s to my '99 RT, but don't feel comfortable with the pictogram instructions drawn up by Hella. Anyone have some wiring suggestions/recommendations they are willing to share? Thanks, Mark Ken asked a very good question (r.e. How you want to control their use). I used the enclosed switch and pretty much leave mine on all the time. Having said that, here are some hints that may help: 1. Picked up +12v main lead from the starter 2. Stuffed control relay into spare spot in relay box. 3. +12v control for relay was tapped via an unused 12v line up by the fairing (I believe I used the 12v line for the parking lamp, but I don't know if the 1100RT has this - the 1150 does). 4. Drilled a hole in the dash to mount the switch. Note: The ground I used was the bolt holding the horn onto the frame. After the first week of FF50 use, they flat out stopped working! I discovered that BMW did a FINE job painting the frame and the ground I chose was thick with paint. After that, I've not had a problem. Regards, Mike O Link to comment
rondob4
I would like to connect the lights to the high beam. It wasn't clear (to me, anyway) in the directions as to how the relay is wired in, and I'm not really good with electricity in general. Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Tank
I don't know if this helps or not, but my ff50's are wired to my hi-beams also,. I removed the shield and top dash cover, than i peeled back the dash to expose the wiring harness and the headlight assembly ( I have the 04' 1150). After finding the hi-beam wires, i look at my Haynes for the '93 to 97 1100 twins and asertained that the wiring color code were the same. I than worked back a ways into the harness and spliced a lead to the relay from the hi-beam, all the while thinking this is stuped ... i know nothing about wiring... there goes my warrentee, the world as i know it will end........ turned um on and they worked.... oh yeah Thanks to this board and the people on it, i have found that i can do it. I just need to get past the FEAR. Link to comment
ednap
I'm pretty sure someone previously posted a simple diagram on how to fit aux lights with all the relay terminals numbered to make it easy to follow. Try a search and see what comes up. Link to comment
rondob4
Thank you, Ken. My search turned up nada. Mark Link to comment
Ken H.
OPPS! I miss read your post! For high beam connect to the white wire, not the white/yellow one. Sorry for the confusion. Link to comment
