PABill
It's time for me step up and start to do my own brake bleeds and I need to make a Mini Stan reservoir fill adapter. The reservoir cap costs $49.00! Does anyone know of a cheaper source, or an alternative? I got the price off of the Max BMW online parts fiche. I'll spend the $49 if I have to, but I want to pinch pennies if I can. Link to comment
madness522
I remember reading about this a while back and someone used a rubber stopper with a hole drilled into it for the funnel. Not sure it was an 1100 or an 1150 or if it matters. Total cost was a couple bucks. If I weren't so lazy I'd search and find that post for you. Link to comment
stager
I'm using a rubber stopper on my mini stan and it works fine. If you've got a good hardware store near you, you can get it for a couple of bucks. Drilling is a bit of a pain and you need need to be meticulous about cleaning off the drilled out rubber. Big_Gray
What is the inside diameter of the reservoir...ie what size of rubber stopper do you need? Link to comment
kioolt
You can buy the whole mini-stan here already made for $60 plus shipping. http://www.diymoto.com/ Link to comment

Willie
PABill, I'm in York and have a cap for you. $25 will get you the cap, vent tubes and a few O-rings. Gives you an excuse to take a short ride south. Email me for directions if you're interested. Terry Link to comment
KMG_365
$60 dollars for that?? Whats special to cause it to be so expensive? The plug from BMW with the odd "buttress threads" to get it to seal well enough to hold brake fluid above the reservoir is required to make the standard Mini-Stan. You can get the parts cheaper, but RightSpin's one is a fairly good deal if you're not that handy. I found that the small end of a #3 standard rubber lab supply plug was exactly the same diameter as the opening, so a #2.5 (or perhaps a #2) drilled out to fit the McMaster Carr funnel (or equivalent) should work well--but I haven't tried it yet! I sent money via PayPal, but have had no acknowledgement to the PayPal notification or a follow up e-mail. It's only been a few days, so I'm not too concerned yet. Link to comment
KMG_365
AFAIK, "RightSpin" is still making them, but it's a side job thing and he might be on the road. You might PM him (and request a read receipt so you know he got it) in case something went awry with the PayPal thing just so he knows about it. Steve's a great guy and I'm sure there's a valid reason you haven't heard, but if it's only been a few days, I certainly wouldn't worry yet. Unlike me, he MAY just have a life! Link to comment

Just been really, really busy with day job. txmedic: If your first name is Karl, you should see your funnel in a couple of days. Please let me know here if you didn't get my email today. -Thanks Link to comment

I won't be home until tomorrow night to check my e-mail (gmail site is blocked) Either way, I'm just glad to hear you are still making them. I checked into running down all the parts, and decided this was a good deal when you factor in everything involved. Thanks! Link to comment
keithb
I made 2 ministans in April for the brake bleed procedure before realizing my buddy ordered the wrong part (03 and earlier TOP part from BMW). He then picked up the right parts and it was $50 just like you said, but you get 2 TOPS from BMW. The funnel from McMaster Carr is only $5 or so. If it was me I would order 2 funnels from M.C. and make two ministans and then sell one. I sold the two I originally made in one day on this website. That's a no brainer. Link to comment
