Buster
2005 R1200RT I took the front wheel off to get a new tire mounted. When taking the brake calipers off, I pushed the pads back just far enough to get the calipers off the wheel. When I put the calipers back on, I pushed the pads back further to help get them installed easier. Doing so, I noticed a small amount of brake fluid (probably less than an ounce) drip out of an overflow tube just above the left side of the swingarm attach point. I've never seen or heard of a brake system having an overboard overflow tube, so this is way wierd for me. Any of you guys have comments or helpful information about my situation? TIA Link to comment
Ken H.
Yes, the ABS unit has a vent/overflow tube, and if it is quite full, what you saw when you did what you did is not unusual. Just clean it up and all will be fine. Link to comment
ScottT
I just changed my pads to EBC as per the BMW procedure. The official procedure includes removal of the plastic, tank and use of the "funnel" when pressing back the calipers for the pad changes. It actually pushed back more fluid than I expected. I believe this overflow tube is unique to the lovely servo setup as I have never seen a brake fluid overflow either pre-servo. Link to comment
