camshaft
Hi all, Just wondering what can cause low idle, after reassembling my engine and getting things in order I have found that my idle is about 100rpm lower than it was (about 950). I did a TB synch and even with the airbleed screws out about 3/4 further out than before its lower. I reset the motronic and still no dice. What, causes low idle, besides the obvious that I (*I think*) have covered. Thanks for any ideas. Link to comment
Joe Frickin' Friday
Possible it's crummy breathing because your camshafts are improperly phased. Did you ever figure out what the deal was with that? Link to comment
ShovelStrokeEd
What did you do to your motor? New rings or bearings? Might wish to go back over your valve adjustments. Also, if the ignition rotor down by the HES was removed, it is easy to crush the timing tab and wind up with retarded ignition timing. How is the overall vacuum at idle. Low vacuum would indicate tight valves or possibly a bad ring seal. We need more input to help. Link to comment
camshaft
I did not disturb the HES. Essentially I had to remove both heads and cylinders (and pistons) to have new inserts installed in the block (pulled studs). I always set the valves on the loose side so I'm more or less wondering if the low idle could be a faulty engine sensor (i.e. oil temp or something). I did check the sprockets and now they appear to be on the marks when at TDC, so I'm leaning in another direction. I'm not too concerned with it because it rides fine except for the idle just being about 100 rpms lower. Thanks again. Link to comment

If it is a bit low, it greatly affects the idle RPM. Mick Link to comment
