Long_Haired_Rider
I recently purchased a 2000 R1100RT. What is the best oil and which viscosity should I run? Either I'm a half wit or my search isn't working very well b/c I couldn't find any posts and there has to be tons of them. I purchased a CD of the BMW repair manual on e-Bay and much to my chagrin it does not tell you which viscosity to use. Does anyone have experience with Amsoil in a BMW? I've always liked Mobil 1 just b/c it's available anywhere I might end up. Has anyone tried Castrol's new synthetic? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Link to comment
Mike T
There are a bunch of discussions on oil. Make sure you change the Search to posts newer than one Week to one Year. 20W-50. Amsoil works fine in my R1100RS. Link to comment
BUSTED
15/50 and 20/50, synthetic or dino oil both work well. Never had problems running Mobil 1 or Castrol oil in BMW's. Link to comment
Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs
Here's a great How to Search write-up. Maybe it can coach you to perform better searches? For a more direct answer to your question, I use 15/50 Synthetic from Mobil 1, but really any oil is good so long as you change it regularly. My change interval is typically 10,000 miles and the bike is running great at nearly 100k. Don't fret over what type exactly, just put something in, mixing types and viscosities is fine. The ride, ride, RIDE. Link to comment
