Garmin software question

I have a GPS V that comes with City select. I am thinking of upgrading to another Garmin but wanted to know what the difference in the City Navigator software is. Has anyone used both? What does one have the other does not, or is it just the way they break out the maps for downloading, but same basic info on both. Thanks Phil

I can't answer your question directly. But if you upgrade to a current Garmin model that supports 3-D as well as 2-D display you will HAVE to go with the NT version of City Navigator. The new unit should read waypoints and routes developed for your old machine. There is not a great deal of difference in the look and feel of the Mapsource products.

Garmin give a list of recommnded software for each model on their website.

I went from a V to a Quest, and there was little change in City Navigator itself. MapSource on the other hand has undergone a series of incremental upgrades sense the V.

 

As mentioned, if you go with a 3D product, it's a whole new game.

If you check there web page you can download the "latest & greatest" version of Map Source. I check it about once a month. They even have a feature now so when you hook up your GPS unit to the software it has and "auto update" for your specific unit. It goes on Garmin's update page and checks for any updates for your unit.

I currently have a "V" also and I am considering upgrading to the 2720.
