RTinNC Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The new year has arrived and the excitement for S.T.A.R.T. in Blairsville is building! Some folks @TSConver @TEWKShave asked about points of interest. cool destinations and of course restaurant suggestions in and around Blairsville. Here's YOUR chance to share and exchange ideas, recommendations and ask questions that local area pros (BBR's and otherwise) from our group can respond to. There's a deep wealth of knowledge in our midst, and many of these folds have been attending and contributing since the very first event! For now, the only guideline is that if you post a recommendation kindly include the name, address, web link (if available) and what's good or interesting about it. There may be more guidelines later, but let's uhh... START.. here So I will start with North Georgia BBQ. I have dined there twice and it was good both times. Nice outside seating and very motorcycle friendly. It's about 35 miles south of Blairsville. 59 E Main St Unit 2, Dahlonega, GA 30533 http://www.northgabbq.com/ Also, Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville. Anyone who may not be familiar .... Bill Elliott aka Awesome Bill from Dawsonville is from Dawsonville. I have never been but being a racing fan it is on my list. It is about 50 miles south of Blairsville. 415 Hwy 53 East, Dawsonville, GA 30534 http://georgiaracinghof.com/ 5 2
TSConver Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have been to the GA Racing Hall of Fame. It is pretty cool. I think they have whiskey tasting real close as well. https://www.distillery.news/blog/dawsonville-moonshine-distillery/ 1
TSConver Posted January 6 Posted January 6 The Chattahoochee BDR-X is right in that area. It is a 2 to 3 day loop for ADV riding. @TEWKS and I are planning on hitting it while we are down there. I think the plan is to start on Monday. https://ridebdr.com/ 1 1
wbw6cos Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Of course, in Georgia, there is the highest point for looking out - https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/conf/recarea/?recid=10542 Brasstown Bald (even the name is cool) I have been there many times, with a visit or two to the Visitor's Center. The great thing about being the highest point is a fun road to reach the summiti: Spur 180. One could always ride up and turn around (before the guard shack -lack of better term) without paying a small fee to visit. Last time I was there, parking was free due to Veteran status (I park for FREE!) as I was only stopping for the photo-op of my bike with the look-out tower in the background. On a clear day 4 states can be visible. Feel free to check it out, at least for the fun roads leading to it. I am going to hazard a guess and state that a route, or two, could possibly be posted with the roads that will get you there. The routes are usually posted a few weeks prior to the event, so stay tuned, y'all! 6

And, I know he’s quite the Adventurer Rider so just heads-up if interested. 1

Nani’s Restaurant Jim’s Smokin’ Que edit Man, this was the place that I was really looking forward to going back to. Lala’s Kitchen Oh well, I guess there’s still motorcycle riding that needs to be done. 3

Hey .... you can't have too much BBQ! Nani's on the other hand looks like an easy walk from the Milton! 1 2

Three things come to mind: Food was very good. Met a lawyer there from Miami who had a farm where he raised miniature horses. The chef went ballistic when the hostess seated customers minutes before posted closing and after he'd shut down the kitchen. Don't be late. 3 1

Funny, I asked (jokingly) how many pounds a miniature horse dressed out from the butcher. He said he'd kill anyone who tried to eat one of his pets. 1 1
