King Herald Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 I was out in the dark a few nights ago, first dark ride since ‘summer’ started here in the U.K. I noticed I had no light in my speedo, couldn’t read it. Once I got home I pulled up this forum, searched for info, found a link to some LED bulbs and started browsing Amazon. Next day they turned up and I pulled the speedo and tacho apart and slipped them in. Screen had to come off, and speedo cable, then the big screws came out, and the bulbs were easy enough to change. Luckily I tested them before putting it all back together as I got two in back to front, so they didn’t work. This was an interesting find, on a German motorcycle. Even with the brighter bulbs it’s still pretty hard to read the trip meter. .

The alternator (regulator) uses the resistive output of the charging light bulb to initiate start-of-charge. 2

I saw something you have posted previously about changing the wattage of the charging light bulb, to improve charging, but mine seems to do okay now. I went through a spell when it needed revving up a bit to get the charge light out, but that seemed to fix itself somehow.
Dave334478 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Just noticed a few of mine are out. Any chance you could link the bulbs? Edit: After a lot of time spent searching, because apparently this is top secret information BMW does not want known, the instrument cluster bulb sizes are as follows. 74 for everything except the clock. (PC74 if you need the plastic twist lock base) The clock uses a BA7s
