Goodbye all, my BMW days are over

After much hesitation and thinking about it, I have finally decided to sell my hardly-used BMW 1200 GS LC. I sold it to a friend down the road, much younger than me, with more energy and many years ahead of him, so it got a good home.

Frankly, after my accident in 2016 up in Colorado and the subsequent years with Covid lockdowns here in Italy, I just did not ride that much anymore. But having been riding all my life, I just could not get to giving it all up and admitting I am an old so-and-so. So I got myself a new GS back in 2017, when we moved to Italy, and intended to ride it north into the Alps and Dolomites. But it only got used around town and some trips into the Apennines. Covid took 3 years of our life here, and my injuries from the accident did not do much good either (being more profound than we thought at first).
So handling the big bike became an issue, and safety comes first.

I thoroughly enjoyed this forum, that I joined way back in 2004 when I bought my first BMW. I have learned a lot from the knowledgeable people here, enjoyed the discussions, posted quite a few ride tales, and most importantly, MADE SOME FRIENDS FOR LIFE.

I would like to thank everybody here, especially the previous and current owners of the forum and I wish you all safe miles and loads of fun riding.

Oh, and I am not quitting on riding just yet, just downsizing to my current abilities, getting onto a Honda 750 with DCT........ so there's that!

Love you all,

Goodbye !

Francois

I am sorry to hear you are selling your GS, but I am also glad to see you will keep riding on a little smaller bike.

I hope you will post the occasional picture and about your new adventures with your new bike.

Of course maybe you can share a picture of your new bike.

Good luck and many happy miles!

I cannot imagine my liking anything more than my R1200 on the road, but I definitely feel every one of my 74 years when we are at zero mph. The additional F650 is great for shorter trips and could become my primary bike if I ever decide the boxer is too much.

Hell, I have never owned a BMW (yet) and here I am. As mentioned, no need to check out of here, and also as Rougarou mentioned, love hearing stories of Europe, rides or otherwise.

Good luck with the Honda, continued injury recovery, and everything life keeps bringing.
