Hadabadachada Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 2013 R1200R so I was looking around the bike and noticed a bit of a weep that I had not noticed before. as you can see on the shaft there’s a bit of “moisture” as well as on the black shield. neither are actually wet to the touch, so I’m not really worrying about it now, but something I gotta keep in mind with a long trip coming up. is a seal swap something I can do as is? Or is it a mission?

Or is it a mission? Afternoon Hadabadachada I don't see much of any seal seeping, are you sure that it isn't just some brake dust that mixed with a little water then dried to leave a stain? In any case the seal is easy to replace yourself. Just post back if/when you are ready to do it & we will address the how-to.
Hadabadachada Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 I guess it could be something else. Only thing I remember seeing when I got the bike is that discoloration in the one spot on the right. From what I assume was, water setting for awhile, all those years the bike wasn’t used. But that dark rim all around it there, and then the rim on the plastic is relatively new. tho it’s not moist. I’ve never sprayed anything in there. So I figure, if there’s a stain, it would be from gear oil. I’ll keep my eye on it. Maybe get a seal just to have on hand. gotta pull the right head cover and clean that seal too, noticed some oil seeping from there and can’t recall 100% if I gave it all a good wipe down last time I checked the valves. I suppose 11 years and a lot of sitting, to riding everyday, hard, in this ridiculous Miami heat, would have an effect on any old rubber. Noticing bubbles here and there on painted parts. Things are getting HOT! putting together a list of all the rubber things to potentially need to replace.

When that seal seeps it is usually not a wonder-if, most times the seep will be noticeable. In any case, you might also have a drive venting issue causing a bit of internal pressure build up. Your factory final drive vent cap has been changed/updated to a new part. You might think of replacing that when you get a chance. P/N- 33748864458 Breather
Hadabadachada Posted May 17, 2024 Author Posted May 17, 2024 Pretty sure I have the most recent vent. Ordered that back when I was creating milk in the FD. Water stopped getting in, but maybe it’s not venting proper now. That’s an interesting thing, wouldn’t surprise me. maybe I should ride like an animal.
