Trim panel upper part replacement issues?

Re. 2006 r1200rt trim panel replacement advice, my trim panel behind the mirror is broken and I will be replacing the whole trim panel unit. 
i am concerned if I need to be prepared for some serious issues, any advice on prep and organization? Any advice even the most basic one would be appreciated, operation procedure and best ways to not misstep the process or staying organized would be great, I am not the most patient mechanic and I need to have a good plan to avoid rushing and hitting a wall.
