Hi all

Appreciate the help

My 2020 R1250 RT Elegance came equipped with Denali lights which are activated by holding the turn signal indicator in for 10 seconds

Been working fine but now they no longer want to show me the way

Nothing Zilch

Any suggestions

Cheers

Mark,

I'm assuming the lights are connected to the bike via ezcan or cansmart? If so, I would connect to the ezcan with a computer and relook the settings.

Just had a similar issue with my Clearwater lights.  First checked the connections to the Can opener.  Good.  Checked power to Can opener.  Good.  At the dealer during a driveshaft replacement, they checked the Can opener itself by putting on a new one.  It worked, so the original Can opener was bad.   Try those steps and you should figure it out.

Have you accidentally adjusted them to off via the Wonder Wheel?  I can't remember whether you push or pull the wonder wheel, one of the ways, hold the wheel pressed for 4 or 5 seconds, the light will flash and then you can use the wheel to adjust the brightness for off to 100% (assuming it the lights are connected via a CanSmart).

If there is a short in the system detected by the CanOpener it will turn off that circuit.

You need to connect the can Opener to your computer and use the app from denali to troubleshoot or reset the unit.

Thanks all

Literally 2 minutes after posting went back to the bike and Denalis were functioning as per normal

I have a bottle opener on board (essential) but have no idea what a can opener is for

Unless it's for the can of worms (questions) I now have

1. What's a can opener?

2. What's an ezcan?

3. What's a cansmart?

4. Where are these items located on the bike?

5. Are the easily accessible and identifiable?

I didn't realize that the Denali's were adjustable with the wonder wheel

I have seen them able to be programmed on a computer but that is way above my skill set

Is switching the Denali's on and off via the indicator switch standard practice?

Appreciate the help

Cheers

Questions 2 to 5.

Denali CANsmart and Hex ezCAN (both are the same) are essentially the Denali lighting systems electronic brain that connects to you BMW Canbus system, (it's electronic brain) so the two can talk. Without it the BMW Canbus would have a fit as it would register the power draw the lights are taking as a fault and throw it's toys out of the pram. Follow wbw6cos's link to see what they look like. The usual postilion to fit them is behind the pillion seat. It's inconvenient as you have to take off the rider & pillion seats, but there's a big enough and dry cubby hole behind the seat and in front of the rear lights that everything just fits in nicely.

You've got to download a small program on your laptop and use a cable* to attached it to the CANsmart if you want to change the settings, but you then get quite a lot of configuration options. In my opinion one of the most useful is 'Only when the Engine is Running'. It means you can turn your ignition on to do other things without the lights blazing away and draining your battery.

*Why they don't have a mobile phone app with Bluetooth connectivity I just don't know. It would be so much more user friendly.
