Finding Friction Plate Replacement

Hey, I've a BMW r1100r from 2000 in need of a new friction plate and I've been having trouble tracking down the correct part. I know that in late 1997, BMW changed something in their oilhead clutches which requires those previous models to install an entirely new clutch assembly when replacing the plate. Trying to find the parts diagram for my specific model year has been difficult, so I was wondering if anyone here could confirm if the part number 21 21 7 670 453 is what I need.

Thank you.

My parts book shows     p/n--  21217670453     Clutch Plate - (from 12/97)

BUT!, there is no way that, personally,  I would pre-buy a clutch disc for a mid year's 1100R without first removing the original disk & trying to find the numbers on it.  (even then, matching to an old original part numbers on clutch parts is not always easy)

Unless you have owned that motorcycle from new that thing could have a few different clutch part matchup's.

I have an old 1998 BMW service bulletin that states: "if the removed clutch disk has a white paint mark on it then the pressure plate must also be replaced while replacing the clutch disc otherwise there is a risk of poor clutch disengagement"

There was also a tighter spline fit clutch disc that was installed on some 1100R bikes under warranty to prevent idle rattle. (but this seemed to be on the pre 12/1997 1100 bikes)

I also have some other BMW service bulletins on clutch parts not being compatible with later replacement  parts.

The general warnings seem to point to replacing all the parts as an assembly.

The good news is, anything with a production date after 12/1997 is a lot easier to match as those came with the updated clutch parts.

Added: you might try calling Beemer Boneyard    (973) 775-3495     as they are probably as knowledgeable as anyone on what fits & what works with what year(s) clutch parts on the 1100R.

Another place to try is Euro Motoelectrics   (303-526-0901) _their prices as pretty decent also.
