kruuuzn Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 My new Clearwater lights are suppose to be preprogrammed to dim automatically at night time. I've been trying to verify this by covering the TFT with a towel figuring that's where the photocell is located but there's no change in the light intensity. Can anyone confirm that is the location of the photocell? Thanks

I don't know the actual difference but I don't think the USA headlight dims during daylight like in the UK. In any case to find your photocell, start by covering the entire front of the motorcycle then see if the dash or the lights dim. If not then you are going to have to figure out HOW the USA motorcycle is supposed to operate. If you get dimming then try covering different areas until you isolate the area that contains the photocell. Just remember that any dimming will not be instantaneous as there should be a programmed in delay to prevent the continuous changing when riding under trees or through shadows. Possibly the Clearwater dimming is built into the Clearwater lights themselves so try covering one of both lights as a test for that option.
92Merc Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I know on my 2015 RT, the Clearwaters dim based on the photo cell on the dash. I can replicate that. So the Clearwater module is tapping into the CANBUS signal.
kruuuzn Posted May 9, 2024 Author Posted May 9, 2024 Thanks guys. 8 hours ago, dirtrider said: Just remember that any dimming will not be instantaneous as there should be a programmed in delay to prevent the continuous changing when riding under trees or through shadows. That's a good point. I'll definitely keep that in mind. 5 hours ago, 92Merc said: I know on my 2015 RT, the Clearwaters dim based on the photo cell on the dash. I can replicate that. kruuuzn Posted May 13, 2024 Author Posted May 13, 2024 UPDATE I called Clearwater and they told me that since I was trying to check this in the garage the lighting may not be strong enough to trigger the Clearwaters to the high setting. They said to put a strong light in front of the TFT and sure enough, the lights turned brighter. I’ve been looking at them in the low setting all this time. Thanks to all of you that responded. 😁 2 1
