Motoscan vs new BMW update

Hi!

My dealership contacted me recently to tell me an update should be performed on my 2014 RT.

AFAIK, it's not a safety recall per se (not listed on the DOT website) but something to do with a reprogramming related to the ESA and potential fault leading to a blank dash display.

Never happened to me but I figured it might be a good idea to give my RT a fresh dose of BMW updates (hasn't been to the dealership in a long time).

Anyhow, once back at home, I noticed that my TPMS was back to showing BAR units.

I had reprogrammed it a few years ago using Motoscan to display PSI instead.

No sweat, I plugged it to Motoscan and to my surprise, all Kombi "Coding" features are no longer accessible (which is where, among other settings, you can change the units on the dash).

Connection is still good, service reset is still available. Just "Kombi - Coding" that's gone.

I reached out to Motoscan's developper who confirmed that the latest BMW update changed something to the coding and that at the moment, they don't have an answer for that.

Maybe in the future, but no ETA.

So this is a heads up to anyone in a similar situation.

Hopefully it won't be a problem for the GS911, but until an owner confirms that, it could be affected as well. I don't do software updates unless I'm having an issue. There's an update for my 2020 too, which lowers the threshold to throw CELs for LED H7 bulbs (which I'd like), but it has other negative effects I didn't like, so will leave it alone. Bike works and runs perfectly (and my GS911 wi-fi too), so don't want to mess with it.

The only update available on my '17 RT as of 3 weeks ago was an ESA warning that currently flashes yellow. The update would flash red. (I've never seen it.)

I told them to 'forgettaboutit.'

Thanks for the update re: Motoscan!

Yeah... I now wish I did the same :-)

My dealership told me the same for my 2014 RT. My I-Level was upgraded from K001-15-3-511 to K001-23-11-510 in January 24. Unfortunately, I didn't get any further details, but I also didn't notice any issues after the code-level upgrade.

I had exactly the same problem on my RT2016.  Upgraded all the firmware they recommended, now I can't put it back in PSI or my my alarm (DWA) make "beep" when I arm/disarm.

I'm a bit pissed, hope motoscan will provide a fix soon... having paid for the ultimate version I would prefer not having to buy a GS911 :(
