Chip Key modification

When I ordered my 2023 RS I ordered a extra plastic key .   Being a Locksmith in my state of Tx I ordered a knock off brass BMW key full sized as the plastic keys struggle to unlock the seat or luggage .  Also the Key Fob one can see the flex and stress on the body unlocking mentioned items . The large brass key has no issues .   Im working on installing the chip into the knock off key when a replacement arrives as it had a hidden screw along with multiple snap pins for the plastic body .    Here are some photos of the plastic key disassembled .

I also was not liking how thin the key ring hole was so having it apart I was able to drill a new hole further into the body .

I'll update when parts come in .

That is pretty cool.   Thanks for posting your great idea.

So, do you intend to duplicate that plastic key?

Curious about the tool(s) that cut those.   CNC machine?

Thanks.

I do not own the cutting machine it's quite expensive.  Keys like this I'll run to a former veteran owned shop .

Tinkering around some more there is a existing chip pocket in this body .

Less work to do .

Assemble photo . I broke the actual key ring portion as the screw is hidden behind the BMW roundel

What I did was order a metal key from MaxBMW, which cost a pretty penny ($40+), and hid it under the left Wunderlich large frame plug, to be able to remove the passenger seat, in case I lost the fob. This key has a rubbery cover, which is light gray in color, with the BMW roundel embedded in it. And the supplied plastic chip key is hidden behind the owner's manual, which is under the rider's seat. And no, the chip key is not close enough to the antenna to get recognized (I tried:D). That way, I'd be able to ride the bike home in the rare case the fob was lost. I also carry an extra fob battery, by the way. Finally, to release the seat, I put pressure on the seat, and it requires a lot less force than without doing that. In addition, since it's not obvious which direction you need to rotate the key, I put a little arrow with a permanent marker:).
